What design of cue would you make using this wood?

I have never heard that but I have seen some paduk that looked close, A good insurance is only buy from reliable sources with a reputation, with forums like this, it's easy to know, who's reliable and who's not. Pink ivory is close in weight to Ebony. A very solid wood that machines and takes finish well.

Yeah the pink Ivory I have is about as heavy as ebony, can almost cost as much for a good stick of It also :( It's not curly, but color seems pretty nice in waxed form.

I have wood that was nice quality wood, but was supposed to be paduk, altough it resembled what I've heard called osage orange, is there a distinction between those two, or are they the same, because the paduk as I've heard it called, did not seem as orange, and even the grain seems alittle different. not all squares were as orange, but I turned 1 round, and looked like I could squeeze a glass of juice from It :D Pretty wood though, probably look really nice in some ring work.

I have seen it vary in many shades, that's why I don't use it. My shades for red are Pink Ivory, Red Heart and Bloodwood.

True, I only have 4-5 squares of It, but even though I got them from the same source, at the same time, they are all a different shade. they all have a atleast a hint of that orange, but can't find 2 sqaures that even come close to matching up. You would probably have to get everything you need out of the same piece, because might be tuff to match another up if It ended up being needed.

The pink Ivory I have is pretty red looking, and dense. I've seen it in different shades also, but from what I can tell, usually from different sources. Might have something to do with the species thing you guys mentioned, I don't know, but the pieces from the same source, seem alot more consistent with each other, altough not always a perfect match, like any other wood, but I do see what your talking about with the shades. The odds seem alot better.

Thanks, Greg

That one's not mine - I don't know where I got the picture.

I was wondering if you knew who owned the cue. LOL!!! How did you know it was a Jim Buss?

Fred,

I had no clue it was yours. That's funny - what a coincidence. The picture must have been posted somewhere and I copied it for some reason - the file dates to March 7, 2005 and is titled "JimBussForearm.jpg" . I was probaly looking for unusual wood combinations or designs at the time for some reason.

I was actually looking for a pic of my JW when I ran across that photo.
