What Did George Use?

Hi Folks,

Just a question about George Balabushka cues. Does anyone know if George ever built cues with thick Ivory rings just below the joint and ending the shafts at the joint? It appears when put together the Ivory rings are just above and just below the steel joint. Don't have any photos of the cue so I can't help with that. Any information would be appreciated. The butt plate is white but does not look like Ivory. Too bright and solid for a near fifty year old cue. The bumper is brown and cracked from age. The wrap is leather but I was told it was a replacement. Thanks in advance.

I have not seen any white ring work from George.

He did some joint collars in white early on, but I believe they were a white phenolic material. Never seen or heard of ivory. Check out pg. 320 and 331 Billiard Encyclopedia, 2nd edition.

That's the cue joint with the white rings. The cue I saw had no dots in the points. The small section between the wrap and butt plate was much simpler with just solid wood, no ring. The butt was white with a brown bumper.

Thanks so much for the information. The cue had two original shafts and two made by Gus Samboti.
