What do pool need now?

The thrills are up to the player. The player, will not put an ounce into playing fun, entertaining, or adventurous shots as long as they are trying to win... The more money, the less entertaining.

It's not even that. The better someone is playing pool , the easier the game 'looks'. :)

When Tiger hit that 8 iron 200+ yards out of a trap , over water to an island green , 10' from the pin and holds the green. Jaws dropped all over the world by even the other top players in the world. That's what draws people to watch and the money follows.

Nothing you can do. It's not a big money spectator sport , never was , never will be.

All 'indivudual' sports are extremely difficult to make a living at if your not of the top players in the world. Pool is just one of many. Tennis , Golf , even Bowling. Entrance fees , travel expenses , accomodations , equiptment , trainers , practice/court time , apparel . . . it goes on and on. Pool might actually require some of the least financial investment to compete professionally in. A cue ,a night at the "6" and entry fees and your good to go. The payouts are expectedly going to fall in line accordingly.

Perhaps facilities could be provided for spectators to bet on the games. Get some girls from Hooters to rack the balls with cleavage camera shots. Strickland's meds could be replaced with placebos & it would provide some hockey type brawls.

Just my 2 cents

Reality TV

Look at the popularity of Fear Factor, American Idol, Survivor, Amazing Race,....

Do a Pool Related Reality TV show, with real colourful Commentators like Simon Cowel, and where the players need to something nasty when they loose (like drink or eat something weird), this will get the TV audience excited. Imagine going thru the Auditon,.....

And having a Million Dollar prize.

I think reality tv are a thing of the past. There was a time when it was everywhere. But i think people are sick of it now. Or at least I am.

IPT did have the million dollar prize i think. But it did not work out.

I think the governing body need to have some sense and sensibility. Like in the recent San Miguel Asian 9 ball tour which was taken over by Guinness. I heard it was poorly handle and San Miguel was treated shabbily despite doing a great thing for Asian pool. As a result sponsors pulled out great players like Efen Reyes and Bustamante. It was a sad day. Sometimes it is not all about which sponsor has the bigger pocket. Its about appeal to the whole pool community. If Guinness had instead done an Asian 8 ball tour in conjunction with San Miguel Asian 9 ball tour. It would be a day that would feel like we have struck the lottery.

Maybe I do not know the whole story behind it. Maybe there is a whole complicated political story behind it all. But all I know is that I miss watch 2 of my favorite players in action. Without them, the whole tournament seems to be missing something.

For a start maybe they can get some freaking proper pool commentators! I really hate watching Asian 9 ball pool matches with the tv muted.

Best regards
Chris
