I know that many people replace tips themselves, but I was wondering what a typical charge is for getting a tip installed.

As far as I have determined, there is only one guy in my area doing this kind of thing, and he charges $25 plus the cost of the tip. How does this compare to the norm?

inserted a poll to make it easier, but sorta did poor on my wording. oh well, I hope it makes sense.

Can't speak to the norm, but can say that my guy at Best Quality Billiards in Denver does my Elkmaster tips for $10. 00, and the shaft comes back burnished and the ferrule cleaned up. That price includes the tip, of course. For a Moori, it's about double that.

15-40 i would think is normal...

triangle, elk, Le pro are all in the $15 range and morri, kamui and other layered tips will be $30-$40... installed perfectly...

I think 10 for installing the tip and 10 more for cleaning/burnishing the shaft is more than fair.

Between $10 and $20 for me, so far. Tip included.

Haven't tried any of the higher level tips yet, so I'm sure the price will be higher, appropriately so. I'm sure I'll find out at some point in the future, as I'll just have to try out a Kamui or some such at least once :p

$2.00

50% for the tip

50% for the glue

I charge myself nothing for my time :D

I buy tips 50 at a time, far cheaper than paying for them one by one.

Give my friends the same deal.

in the ballpark

$25 is on the higher end but imo is definately worth it if the work is professional.

If the tips mushroom or explode you should definately find a better guy. Most of the time they only have these issues from poor install technique.

It is not cheap to own a lathe and the tools needed to put on tips well.
at $25 a pop it will take a long time to make money.

$20 for a le pro is the going rate in my neighborhood.

all of this changes per tip of course you should list what kind of tip you play with i charge 20 for sniper, everest, and shark tips 30 for kamui and moori 10 for elk master, lepro, triangle, and various other cheaper tips.

and tips usually dont explode or mushroom from anything the installer does its usually the tip itself. lepro is a tip known to do these things.

and a additional 10 for cleaning, sealing and polishing the shaft and ferrule,

if your paying 25 for a lepro id say that unless a very highend cue maker is doing it your getting jacked!!

the poll is useless without saying what kind of tip.

In NYC, I've asked Blatt Billiards (a billiard supply/table/darts/table top games store) in Manhattan and they said they do it for around $12, I think that includes service and a standard Le Pro tip.

I've also called a pool hall in Brooklyn and they said they'll do it for $12ish as well for a Le Pro though I forgot how much it was if I brought in my own tip. Might've been $10 or $12 anyways lol.

top notch work i was paying 10, then went to 15. i was ok with 15. even for top notch i think 25 is too much.

Its brutal for the unknowning player. They make big bucks up here

In MN, Wis Iowa, they think the sky is the limit- Kamui Tips are 45-50. and they raised all the cheap tip prices to 20+. Because they'd rather get you for the high priced Jobs. . I will gladly pay more ,and so should you ,to have a cuemaker -Pro (( that knows how not to sand off your taper.)) If the players saw all the chemicals used, bleach products ,alcohol and water. Because tips can be screwed up easily.!! (( I like Manwons posts about doing tips, he is more than fair with his customers)) and gets repeat business. I just couldn't robb customers- mark

Here in Ohio I only have to pay $5-10.00 for a replacement..my problem is I always try a different type of tip and have to buy the one I want and thst's what drives my cost up.

I voted $10 because that is what I charge without tip included. If they have their own tip I charge $10. If they want a Moori, or Sniper it's $20. Either way it includes having your shaft cleaned and waxed.

Here is a break down of what I charge to install tips including the tip itself:

Triangle - Elkmaster - Le pro - $10.

Layered Tip's - From $15 to $25 depending upon the tip.

Special Tips / Not made anymore - $20 to $40.

Customer Supplied Tips - $10 same as my low end tips.

In my experience exploding/mushrooming can have to do with the installers expertise.

And 25$ as you say for a le pro is high. However if the guy who puts them on does a great job and stands behind his work I would pay it.

Your prices seem very reasonable.

The poll would be better if the tip type was specified.

Two months ago I paid 40$ to have a phenolic ferrule and tip installed on a cue that came with my pool table, that 40$ is more than the cue cost but man it breaks well.
The same night I paid 30$ for a Moori tip (med. hard) and install on my Lucasi Hybrid. I am very pleased with the work Dave did on my cues. He also cleaned and conditioned the shafts. Dave setups at Gate City billiards in Greensboro, NC every so often he does very good work.

I do the same for my pool buddies. After I ruined a Moori that my frined insisted on my paying for upfront and putting on for nothing, he wouldn't pay for either or both tips and expected his cue back in perfect shape. He said, "It's not my fault your ruined the first tip." I had put on about 10 free tips plus the work for this "friend" over the years.

That's the last tip work he got from me forever. I refuse to do it and he now goes to a pro and pays.

Try to help some friends and soon they think they own ya.
