Assume you mean Line Kjorskvik, originally of Trondhiem, Norway, and now of Oslo, Norway. She's a friend of mine, though we have only occasional contact through E-mail.

In recent years, only two players commuted over an ocean each time they played in a WPBA event. The far more celebrated of the two, Jennifer Chen, still does. Line does not do it anymore. Though she made it into the WPBA Top 16 (ranked ninth at one point, if memory serves), she never cracked the Top 8, and had dropped into the high teens when she gave up playing the tour over a year ago.

Playing the tour was obviously not very economic for a transatlantic commuter, and I recall that Line toyed with the idea of moving to the US, but she's fallen in love with her new home town of Oslo, and would appear to be there to stay.

Line obviously still plays pool well, having reached the semis of the European Championships straight pool event about two weeks ago, beaten by emerging superstar Jasmin Ouschan.

I think you can add Ga Young as a trans ocean commuter. She hasnt stayed in the US between events now for well over a year IIRC and Ikumi Ushiroda for the most part as well.

Thought Ga Young was splitting time between Asia and Florida, so I thought she only crossed the ocean for some of the events. Then again, Nostroke, you'd know. As for Ikumi, you're absolutely right, should have thought of that one.

Ga Young vs Allison in the final at Amway should be a good one. Wish we were there, Nostroke.

Though I do not know Line, you can add that she has a WONDERFUL singing voice.

SJM, if and when you speak to her next, please tell her she has a fan of her music here in the States that would LOVE to know how she could acquire more recordings. Seriously...I LOVE her voice and the songs that she has written...well at least the two that I have heard.

You're so right, Landshark, Line sings beautifully. There have been many singalongs over the years at WPBA events, and I've probably been part of about eight of them. The stars of these singalongs were invariably Line Kjorsvik and Dawn Hopkins.

Dawn Hopkins sang a song to me and my female companion at one of them and it made our evening. Also memorable was when Line was invited to sing on stage at the night club at Soaring Eagle during the 2001 WPBA Nationals. She didn't disappoint.

YEAH,,,it's more like i didn't know how to spell her name than that i forgot it.

so tell me what went down with her match with ouschan. age diff aside, i know their 14.1 high runs are close and line had hers(120 i think it was) at ABC.

Ouschan is the better player, end of story. I believe she ran a 126 by the age of fourteen. i think she's 18 now, and she was a big factor in the last women's world championships.

Yes, Line did have that run of 116 at Amsterdam East playing against Liz Schwartreich, but the night before that I beat Line 150-36 and 150-45 at Amsterdam West.

Jasmin Ouschan may well be #1 in the world on the women's side at some point in the future. When the smoke clears and the Allison/Karen era ends, I suspect Ga young Kim, Kelly Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan will rule women's pool.

In short, this was no upset.

Hi SJM,
Is she still working in the shoe store or changed her job? Cheers

The fact that GYK has a fairly new boyfriend over there i think is what makes her go back and forth. The first events of the year here only had 2-3 weeks separating them but back to Taiwan she went in between anyway.

Yes- i wish we were in Taiwan SJM-I've been threatening to go there a few times now. Probably make it next year for the WPC just announced. Im just a little afraid of the culture shock.

I'm pulling for GYK and i know you are pulling for Allison. Poor GYK has never beat her a single set to date so she may be overdue. From what i gather, it may be winner break which could be an advantage for GYK. Still i'd say Allison is the favorite. It wont be long now.

Jasmin was in dead stroke. Women played a race to 75 in the EPC and Jasmin ran 55 in L8 match, 55 in the semis against Line (I think Jasmin ran out in 2 innings: 55 & 20) and 60 in the final ! That's pretty consistent set of runs in consecutive matches !
