What happened at Joltin Joes in San Diego?

I get out here once a year and used to look forward to playing there. Pools gone to crap. What happened?

Last time I was there, they were trying to push the restaurant and bar portion of their business. Since many of the serious players stopped going there, I figured it would be a matter of time before they do away with the pool tables.

If you're talking about the one in La Mesa, most of the play in that area is at On Cue Billiards. I played at JJ's a few times not too long ago when I was down that way on business, but mainly because it was a block from my hotel. It was OK for banging a few balls alone after work to unwind, but zero action and not really any serious players there.

BTW Crash, you don't post here much and iirc correctly I mentioned this last time I replied to one of your threads, but I just get the biggest kick out of the username that goes along with your avatar. :D

In my earlier post, I was thinking of the JJ's in the Gaslamp area of San Diego. Either way, these places would not attract the serious player.

I usually take time from the conference at the convention center to knock around at JJs in the gaslamp. I enjoyed the old brunswicks upstairs that they now closed off. Im staying near old town this year and ventured over to Garnet and found Societys with a over a dozen 9ft Gandys. Empty two nights in a row. I may go to La Mesa check out On Cue!

CRASH yeah, I use that for my league moniker too.

Society used to be rubbish when I lived/played in San Diego. Too many halogen lights and heat, too expensive, tables in bad shape.

I never had a problem with On Cue. Nice tables, parking, freeway close. I have a few biz cards worth 5 hrs free pool there. Shame I can't get em to you!

Don't forget College Billiards in La Mesa!

If you are into barboxes, check out the Library on Mission Gorge Rd and Lou Jones Inn or Lancers both on Adams Ave. Some good shooters for drink action.

FYI - there are bar box tourneys every nite of the week in that city. Do a google for Fast Mikie and his list.

Happy shooting!

Dunno about action, but there're Friday and Saturday tourneys at Nice Rack in El Cajon, pretty quick drive down I-8. I think they start around 8 pm, too. There's also a Monday tourney at On Cue.

I think College Billiards in La Mesa is now the Jolt'n Joe's I referred to.

There is a JJ in downtown (Gaslamp area). "Trendy", "clubby" area so I don't think you're going to find players there. Parking is also a nighmare.
I haven't gone in there since the last Swanee that was held there.

Another JJ in La Mesa that has gone down hill over the years - haven't been in there for couple of years either & I work right behind them !!!)

College Billiards is in San Diego - 1 Diamond and 12 GCs & 6 3C tables

Mark Griffin used to own all 3 of the above before taking over the BCAPL

On Cue is in La Mesa - not sure how many but approx 20 GCs.

Good tourney at On Cue on Mondays and College on Tuesdays

I just heard about a new place on Convoy Street by Raytheon that I have to go check out. Supposed to be 2 (or 3) Diamonds and the rest are the Chinese version of GC's (sorry - don't know the name brand)

Society Billiards (Pacific Beach) is good for just fun, pretty good pizza and, being 3 blocks to the beach, good for "people" watching (male & female LOL)
