What if Kevin Trudeau? Started an Amateur Pool Organization?

Wonder if Kevin Trudeau has his long term sights on building an Amateur Pool Organization to put an end the the APA & BCA.

I ask the question as I was talking to a guy where I live that stated there are over 40,000,000 Pool Players in the U.S. that play in APA, BCA, TAP, and other leagues on a weekly basis. Number sounds high to me, but.

I personally see a lot of potential to attract advertisers to support One Amateur Pool Leagues. Even if half only half of 40,000,000 Pool Players Pool exists.

40,000,000 Pool Players buy a lots of lot of Cars, Trucks, Smokes, Beer, Booze, Corn Flakes,and other consumer goods.

The companies who sell Cars, Trucks, Smokes, Beer, Booze, Corn Flakes, and other consumer goods all are potential advertising dollars for prizes, magazines advertisement, corporate membership etc., in a new Pool League.

That maybe could could put on some real big money tournament for the Non pro player. We call amateurs with a good handicap system.

Certainly wouldn't want to replace my BCA League, but a new addition may be fun.

How about a Regional Tour Qualifying-type league to develop the next Pro-level players to play in the IPT and other recognized professional level events?

This type of league doesn't compete with APA, TAP, and BCA. It augments. It is the next stepping stone to becoming a Semi-Pro or Professional Player. Too many APA, TAP, and BCA players don't take the next step because there just isn't one or they don't realize there is one.

Absolutely, the IPT would have to be crazy not to be working on an handicapping system right now.

At some point I think you could gain 500,000 members for 19.95 yearly IPT membership if there where even semi weekly local events, and it gets you in the door to have an IPT handicap. This would be like having a USGA handicap in golf and be used as criteria for entering opens, just like in golf, IE you need a 1.4 handicap to enter the PGA US Open.

19.95 could be a basic membership to be able to enter local IPT run tournaments and have a handicap. Then you could have a silver membership for 39.95 to include a hat, shirt, patch, program, and discounts. And a gold membership for 79.99 could include a DVD, and an autographed HOF poster.

If everything goes along well with the IPT, I could easily see an annual take of $25 million in membership dues alone at some point.

Thats 25 million dollars a year, and if this is really hashed out in the right way you could make even more on advertising or selling IPT products in a major way! Room owners would welcome it if it draws more players and they get paid for holding such events, and the IPT would benefit from more exposer and sales of DVD's and higher TV ratings.

At some point there should be IPT tournaments every weekend all over the place that all skill level players are involved in!

You know, I think you might be looking at the small picture. Right now, the IPT has Professional players from around the world competing. All I've heard so far is you guys/and girls tossing out American numbers. Well guess what, there's a whole wide world out there along with whole world of players. (which I might add seem to be doing better at pool per capita on the proffesional level than Americans). You don't need to go far on this forum to find a thread about that.

Hmmm IPT doesn't that stand for International Pool Tour, I smell billions.

anyways, I think I've spent more than my 2 cents on this subject. I play on 2 teams right now, I'd switch to an IPT team next year if that was available.

Pools Image needs to change.

Well I personally think if the IPT, or Pool is to be accepted in the mainstream. Pools Image needs to change. Than the big sponsor will line up to sponsor Pool, the IPT, and Amateur Pool.

The two greatest Pool movies in my opinion (the Hustler & Color of Money) , were great movies, but did ZERO to change the perception of the general public that they want their kid to grow up to be a Professional Pool Player.

When you see big corporate sponsors jumping on to sponsor Pool, the IPT, or buying full page advertisement in Pool & Billiard related publications.

Sponsors like Budweiser, Jack Daniels, Proctor & Gamble, GM, Ford, Chrysler, Stock & Financial houses, B of A, Chase, and other big name companies you find sponsoring NASCAR. Than you will know for sure Pool has changed it image, and arrived in the mainstream.

Than Kevin Trudeau has work is marketing magic again. Think Kevin Trudeau has the marketing know how, but can he do it ?

FWIW, my opinion is that image is immaterial. Companies don't care about that anymore, all they care about is viewership, the poll numbers. If people start watching pool the sponsers will come. Soccer has a great image, but people in the US don't watch it and the sponsers go elsewhere. I still think, as much fun as pool is to play, it is boring to watch for the general public. That is the problem that needs to be solved to get into the mainstream.

You may have a point there, as I think like it was and is 1960 sometimes. The Ellen DeGeneres Show is a good example. That show would not fly in the 1060’s, or 1970, and the spin off show of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Zelda is an example when it was found out about Zelda’s Star. Sheila James Kuehl.
