What is the IPT's angle now

To me they have gone from putting on over the top ornate 100 man events paying millions to match-ups with a couple of guys for a few grand streamed free.

Im happy KT hung around and paid most everyone but what is he aiming for now. To me from his point of view, it would be "why bother?" at this level.

So what is he up to?

He was probably hoping for a tour again by starting small with these $5000 matches. People will see $ and want to play. Now, I wonder what his plan is after seeing Mark G post about sick of the state of pool and starting a tour?

He is simply spending the money from the qualifiers

He wants to drive as much traffic to his website as possible and sell it at some point, its a long term marketing plan, in order for him to do that he had to reconcile with the players, granted it took a long time but he did. Now he is trying to get the trust of everyone back, after he does that(i believe over time he will) he will grow this into a monster, this time at a reasonable pace. he has suffered alot of damage to his reputation but he didnt disappear or file a BK for relief of his debt he paid it. He wants this to work, he knows it will over time if he makes the right moves and investments into it. When the website is huge then comes his pay day he is putting the players first-by paying them cash on the spot for the challenge matches.

KT is a brilliant guy, he reads this site, his memory is scary, he dosent forget anything about anything-his brain is a hard drive. He will awalys put the players first, and has a new business plan i cant discuss any more as I dont have permission to. But you can be sure of one thing the players will awalys get paid and he isnt gonna disappear. Sure he is in it for a payday, but after the players not before the players-these days that seems to be a problem here and the PI recently.

I agree with most of what you post but I have to chime in here.

First, what percentage of the former prize money do you know for a fact has been paid off?

You are very correct that he is trying to drive traffic to the web site. That is what the voting is all about and is why we get 5 votes at first and then 10 per day.

I don't believe he will grow it into a "monster" because there simply isn't enough ad sponsorship dollars being spent on this sport to make that so.

He may be "brilliant" but we are measured in this world not by our intelligence but how we use it. Successful con artists often conceive utterly brilliant schemes to defraud people.

Movies are made of such exploits and I'll be damned if I don't admire the smarts and the STONES some of those people have.

But at the end of the day, they are criminals and liars. KT has been both on quite a grand scale.

As I have posted before, the failure of the IPT to generate enough money to pay the prize money is not the issue. The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

But do you remember the LIES about the checks Fatboy? Do you remember the story...put out IN WRITING that Fed Ex had lost the checks?

And have you read his books with all the "miracle cures" that desperate people actually believe in but which have NO serious scientific substantiation?

Sadly, you suffer from chronic back pain. Have you used any of his remedies? You can access them by buying his books or by subscribing to his web site. Here's a link.

Or, I could just grind up the vitamin/mineral supplements I use...add a little dandelion root...a sprinkle or paprika and a pinch of brewer's yeast and I GUARNATEE that concoction will do you JUST as much good!

Hey, he's got LOTS more money than I do but so do all the La Cosa Nostra dons.

I mean no disrespect in disagreeing with you....I just disagree.

Jim,
This is very well put. It resonates my feelings exactly. Every time I see one of his "infomercials" my blood boils. Never mind the IPT thing which by it's self should be enough...the taking money from people with no hope bothers me to the core of my being. Forget Chemotherapy. Drink Green Tea. Take a small truth and wrap it in some blah blah and offer hope to someone with none and take his last dollars. Pathetic. I know it's been said a million times but it deserves to be said again.

For me the only chance of redemption would be to pay all the qualifiers off who never had a chance to play in any events and then and only then should anyone even consider believing again in the IPT.

Wow, another new secret business plan? That's two in the space of two years, the man is on a roll! Ooh, ooh, I bet I know what this one will be ! He'll smuggle the entire IPT player roster into Myanmar packed in tea chests to throw off the scent of drug sniffing dogs. As online gambling is legal there he'll make a fortune! Of course he'll have to confiscate the players passports to ensure business continuity but the players will all get a GUARANTEED 100,000* a year!

Then he'll buy ESPN, Fox Sports Network and the BBC to guarantee simultaneous live prime-time coverage of IPT events worldwide (after hiring top NASA scientists to prove that prime-time can be at the same time across all time zones) and then reap the fortune awaiting from the huddled masses just yearning to watch and gamble on Pool 24 hours a day. Then he'll IPO the IPT on the HKSE and to hell with SOX, the UPA, WPA, FTC, FBI and the LOUNAPOD**!

So when he lied right to the face of all the players at Reno, lied about the payments being lost in the post, lied about guaranteeing player incomes for the 2007 season, lied about rescheduling cancelled 2007 events, lied about having booked prime time TV coverage, lied about having obtained multiple major sponsors, lied about completing a merger with an online gambling company, lied about not being able to pay the Reno purse from his own funds due to the lie about the merger, then disappeared for weeks leaving Mr. Andrews in charge who apparently had the power to do nothing and knew nothing, then offered 50% of the purse to the players, then finally agreed to pay in full but only at a schedule that suited him and still hasn't paid back thousands taken for qualifier entries for a season that never existed, that was his way of putting the players first?

This is the behaviour that makes you certain he is always going to do what he promises?

In all seriousness, I'm not a Pro player, and have no personal stake in this either way. But based on the information available to the public there is not a single reason I can see why anyone should believe a single word from Mr. Truedau about the IPTs future.

As much as i am particularly excited about the schmidt and sigel match-up - apart from that i've lost interest with them. I would back them to the end of the earth with some more tournaments, but the challenge matches are a bit lame. Except the john and mike 14.1 game. :D i really wanna see this!

If that is the case, then the people that qualified should be doing the playing in these matches.

TWhat is the way it should be, but, he has to get back to the one's he screwed first. Those qualifiers are

all very patient and will hang around forever.

KT has a very simple philosophy: If you go for it once, you will again. It works quite well for him.

I wasnt around when everything happened, I should have said that before I made my post, I do know what the plan is going forward, what KT did for damage control in the past I have no idea what was said to who etc. Damage control can be a rough thing for any businessman, I know this first hand. I met KT because we met through a mutial friend, I only have talked about pool with him for less than 10 minutes, we were discussing other business ventures when we met. When we talk its never about pool. I didnt tell him much about my involvment in pool as it wasnt relivant to what we were doing. He asked me not to say anything about the challenge matches that were comming up-this was 8 months ago or longer, way before Earl and Johnny played in Chicago, so I never told anyone anything. Lose lips sink ship's.

When anyone tells me something I respect their privacy, and dont put their business in the street, as a result I know a hell of alot about whats going on in pool beause the "Big" guys in the business trust me not to say things and I dont. They know i'm smart and run their ideas past me, i give them honest input and it ends there.

I will say this there are some good plans in the works by alot of people including KT that will, I hope, put pool back on the map. I cant say anything more or who's doing what-there are people with $$$, passion that want good things to happen, that I know for a fact. Its an honor for me when a "Big" guy in the industry asks my opinion.

A guy at the pool hall had KT"s book and I looked at it. He didn't offer cures as you implied but simply referred you to other books written about various ailments by doctors. I am familiar with his history. I am pleasantly surprised he has been paying the players. I also suspect that if just a fraction of the money he previously was supposedly putting up were to be put in an escrow account many players would race back to play in IPT events.

Charlie, with respect your brief scan of ONE of his books doesn't tell the whole story.

You are correct with respect to some of his books that they don't contain his own specific cures...or anyone else's for that matter...just a discussion about and advocay of the substances written about by others.

But that is ONE of the complaints filed against him...i.e. that his ads and infomercials implied that his book DID contain the cures when they did not.

But ALL of his books contain plenty of pointers to HIS Natural Cures product line...as does his web site.

Check it out. http://www.naturalcures.com/Natural-Cures/Back-Pain.aspx

So he is WAY into personally recommending and SELLING snake oil cures.

But to the extent you mentioned, my original post did need partial correction and I appreciate your providing it.

But just for clarity...I'm NO moralist and if he were to POST several million dollars that HAD to be spent in the normal and ordinary process of promoting pool tournaments...and if that money went into a TRUST with a Trustee such as Mark Griffen or Jay Helfert or Fatboy and could NEVER be refunded to KT either directly or indirectly...then that would be FINE with me.

In the meantime, anyone who trusts him farther than they can throw a Diamond 9 ft. deserves no sympathy regarding the outcome.

Jim
