You might have heard about a musical instrument company and others getting busted for Ebony. That stemmed from them supposedly importing/acquiring it illegally. If you live and buy yours in the US you should have no problems.
Be carefull with Ivory though. Even if you get it legally you still can NOT send it out of the country. A man on here made that mistake and had to deal with a bunch of BS over it. He shipped a cue out of the country with Ivory inlays. Me and the Mrs. ship stuff all over the world and I could have easily made the same mistake. Something I wouldn't have thought of.
