What is your APA level?

I haven't played APA since it was Busch League...back then you maxed out at SL6, only the top player week to week in the whole franchise was a SL7. There was no 9 ball, just BB 8 Ball. Since I wasn't too close to the LO, it may be that in our area (back then I was stationed at Fort Polk in Leesville, LA), jumped the whole franchise from Busch to Coors Light and then APA on his own...never understood it. But it was definitely different back in the '80s. I was a SL6 for most of my time (about 3 years). No idea what I'd be now, but I'm basically a B player now.

I have grown to like apa 9ball. It was weird at first to not have pushout, jump cues and then there was the whole ball scoring system. I grew to enjoy the strategy behind playing where the beginning and middle are as important as the endgame. Not so much for the better players but it came out more during coaching of the 2-5's. IMO apa 9ball puts more pressure on the weaker players to learn kicking and defensive play if they want to win consistently. Even at the higher level, apa 9ball favors the more well rounded player. Granted there is no getting over someone who can break the balls like svb and runs outs every time, but for the rest of the 9s shooting straight and breaking hard are just part of the package needed to win. Banking, kicking and safety play all dictate who controls the table and if you cannot do that, then you usually will struggle to win.

There are very few opportunities to play competitive pool in miami. We have no weekly tournaments and only league play. Even with league play we do not have BCA or TAP. Well sorta no TAP as they are trying to get a session underway right now but its far from healthy and thriving. Its pretty much APA and american rotation down here. So maybe the only reason I enjoy apa is that its either learn to love it or go home and watch game of thrones instead. Frankly though lately its far more enjoyable to watch the dwarf lannister guy than score a 2 vs 2 match.

I started playing APA last year after I retired and had some free time on my hands.

Right now I'm a 6 in 8 ball and a 5 in 9 ball. I'm basically happy where I'm at considering how long I've been playing however I'm not satisfied with my level of play. Too much inconsistency and it just burns my butt when I miss a wide open shot or when I'm surprised by the cue ball action and I miss position.

I also joined the Masters league knowing that I don't play at that level yet but i do enjoy playing and learning from the more experienced players. I have my nights but am just too inconsistent in my play to be a threat.

Anyway that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
