My favorite is 10-ball followed closely by 9-ball and one pocket. One pocket would be my favorite but I only have the patience for four or five games of it.

I'm a highly impatient player, therefore I choose 9-ball for it's relatively quick to play. I used to absolutely LOVE straight pool, but just couldn't stand sitting and coming back to the table cold.

8-ball......gotta go with 8-ball.

Although...I'm starting to REALLY enjoy 14.1 now (when I can actually string a few of 'em together, anyway).

I perfer one pocket. I like the "chess factor" of the game. i do agree with the other posts that patience is very important in one pocket. I am typically a impatient person but for some reason when I play 1P or 14.1 i am not. It just seems the better player usually comes out on top in the more disiplined types of games.

14.1

14.1 is my favorite and I'm just beginning so it might just be the challenge of learning a new way of thinking instead of my favorite. Only time will tell but otherwise I would say 8 ball.

One Pocket is probably my favorite... since I play it more than just about anything else.

For practice, I play 14.1.

However, I play all games and I feel everyone should to have a more rounded game.

you forgot snooker and 3 ball ring games which are my 2 favorite to gamble on, otherwise 9-ball, I like to watch one pocket when i'm a rail bird.

Yeah, I forgot those too. I made this post at college after my deductive logic class, so my mind was pretty much shot at the time. :o

I like 14/1 best by a wide margin. Then 8-ball on a bar table , followed by the fun game of 3-ball with at least five players at $2 a man. Johnnyt

I like One pocket overall for a few reasons:
1.You'll never stop learning new and simple moves to improve your game.
2.You don't have to be in "Dead stroke"to play real well.
3.The game takes more than just shooting talent. It takes a person who knows how to think under difficult circumstances.Who knows how to problem solve the most efficient way.Who has common sense.
4.A great one pocket player can beat a guy consistently who he may not be able to beat in,say,9-ball.Evens things out a bit.
I also love last pocket 8-ball on a big table along with bar table 8-ball.Both games require, again,a person who knows how to think in all the ways I mentioned above.
I really only enjoy 9-ball playing tournaments. It is just a tournament kind of game I guess.

1P for me as my favorite...your speed control must be dead on or you're screwed...9 ball is rediculesly easy after playing 1P for a while...

1 pocket is a very good top choice of games mainly for the reasons already listed.

Overall, I prefer them all. Each game variation stresses some pool skill, that is often not emphasized in other games. Thus, like in 1 pocket where the variety of skills (mental, cue ball control, object ball control, banking, kicking...) helps in any of the other games. The variety of games, when given deliberate focus, helps in all the other games.

So, I recommend all of the above.

I'd have to say 8 ball because it's the game I played all the time when I first started out. A very close second would be snooker, I played a lot of that as well as I got a little older. I really miss those 12ft tables.
