What is your favorite tip to use with a CF shaft, and what hardness do you choose for the tip?

I've been so much happier with my carbon shafts since switching to medium tips. I originally was using the soft stock tips that came on whatever shaft I was playing, first Revos and now Jacoby Black V4. Both shafts play better for me with a good medium tip. I went Kamui Black Medium just because they're readily available and something I'm familiar with. I'm sure there are better tips for the money but Kamui medium really works for me. Never did love Kamui soft, those always mushroomed on me a fair bit but I don't have that problem with the mediums, they hold their shape really well.

Thanks for reply. Have you ever tried the Kamui Brown Medium?

You know, I have a Kamui brown tip on a wood shaft for an older cue but I cannot remember whether it's a soft or a medium. It's one of those two. Haven't played with it in quite a while though and just dno't recall.

Not sure if it's the install or just the tip, but I don't like the side finish on it, which is purely aesthetic and not performance related at all, but it's the reason I've gone with black since then as they've all had a very nice and smooth side finish which I like. Plus I just think a black tip looks better on the black carbon shafts.

My favorite tip to use for my Revo shaft is Kamui Athlete Medium. It is just a little softer than Kamui Black Medium.

I will only use a pad if that's the way it came from the factory.

Also, do you think a pad is something that is good to have added, between the ferrule and the tip?

I am getting this HAMA (custom shaft from Japan) CF shaft in, and asking, because it will need the ferrule and tip replaced (due to the ferrule being damaged), but it also has this pad between the ferrule and tip, for some reason. Not sure if a Pad will be needed, when I get the shaft repaired.

Anyways, I really do not care for Soft hitting tips. I like a good Medium hardness tip. Are Soft tips best for CF shafts for some reason? I see that CF shafts always come standard with a good Soft tip, like a Kamui Black for example, for some reason, so I figured that Soft tips might be the most popular for CF shafts. Also, not sure if needing a pad under the tip is needed or not.

Thanks a lot for any thoughts.
The vault plate is there to protect the shaft and help as a visual guide. Any pads after that will soften the sound and hit. If you like the tink, don't use the pad. If you prefer a softer contact sound, use the pad. Hope that helps.
