What kind and color of chalk do you use and why?

I use blue masters, although if blue diamond was easier to come by and cheaper I would definately switch. Blue diamond is by far a better chalk in my opinion. I usually lose at least 5 pieces a day at a tournament, due to me forgeting to pick it up:confused:

Ooops.... I said Triangle.... I meant Diamond...
So, I'd agree with you.

I like grey Masters. For me it sticks as well as blue or green but keeps my shafts and ferrules cleaner. After reading this thread i may have to check out the tan too.

Where I live, almost every players use Triangle.
Most of the time poolhalls carry Masters... I don't know why Triangle over Masters???

I've been told: since Masters added the American flag (new production????) on the chalk, they've lost some quality. What do you think about this?

You can spread the word that there's no reason to think that anything happened differently marked by the flag. The American Flag was put on as a US Patriotic symbol by the Tweeten Fibre Co. after the 9/11 attacks in NYC. If there's any loss in quality, it's normally a weather issue, as the formulation hasn't changed.

I liked the grey masters better than the tan, for reasons which I will describe below. For my nice cue I will probably still use the grey. Although take note: it is very hard to see on a sniper tip, which is also grey btw. I have tried just about every color and brand of chalk out there and the grey and blue Masters are the best, and blue Triangle as well. Hmmm, just checked and Triangle makes a green too. I wonder if it's dark or too light like the Masters.

i have used tan, but it marks up the table fosho!
Definitely, so much so that one time I came into the pool hall and the kid goes to me "you were in here the other day weren't you?", and I was like "yeah how'd you know?", and he goes "'cause I seen your tan chalk all over the table" ! Needless to say, I didn't use it much after that. Btw, like that avatar man!

Blue Master. I find it doesn't mark up the cloth as much. (Green Simonis). I've tried green Master, but it's such a light green that it actually shows up on the green cloth more than the blue Master. Go figure. Maybe they make a dark green Masters that I'm not aware of? If they did, I'd probably try that.
Agreed. Master doesn't btw, curious about the shade of the Triangle green though.

I often wonder why they don't make a dark green myself. Seems like a natural to me.
I have wondered this too and it seems that Silver Cup are the only ones that do. And I am partial to the Masters myself.

Another vote for blue Masters chalk.

I used tan/camel Masters until Jude R BROWBEAT me into switching to blue Masters when this topic came up about 2 years ago. He's really mean, you know . . . .
Hah! Lol.

Hmmm, Blue Diamond huh? Never tried that one. I wonder...

I use tan/camel Masters at home because I have a camel-clothed table.
Elsewhere, I carry the Blue Diamond Chalk (from Longoni). Probably just a marketing ploy, but I was impressed enough to buy into it.

Hmm, another advocate of the blue Diamond chalk, might be something to this.

Master Blue - Simply because it is default, and easy to get. I have tried Silver Cup, but for some reason I feel that Master stays on the best. If memory serves me correct, aren't Master and Silver Cup somewhat the same company? I'd prefer to use Purple (which for me, for some odd reason or another, keeps it clean as well), but it hard to come by locally, and also I don't think they have it available from Master.
I believe it's Master and Triangle that have the same parent company, being Tweeten Fibre Co., Inc. Dude I've got a few boxes of colored Silver Cup chalk including purple. And yes, Silver Cup are the only ones that make the purple. I'd sell them to you at a discount if you'd like as I no longer have any need of them.

Blue Masters chalk, 'cause Masters is the best and I can see when the tip is covered.
Good point.

I use blue masters chalk now. I was using silver masters chalk, which I actually prefer just to keep things cleaner, but in the end, it was to much of a pain to keep my silver seperate from others while playing/practicing/league, etc.
Same here..., that and the the time I let my boy Brian (a far superior player to myself btw) tryout one of my cues and he started chalking up with the blue, and I was like hold up no use this grey one, and he gave me this look like wtf c'mon Vince, lol.

Nothing more mentally frustrating then shooting your opponent in a match, chalking up for the next shot, only to realize you've picked up his blue chalk and mixed it with your silver lol.

Only happened a couple times, but enough for me to "give into the dark side" and go with blue masters.
Dude, hilarious. Same exact thing here, I have given into the Dark Side! (evil laugh) Lol. At least with my regular playing cue anyways.

Of course after a pitcher or two and a shot of tequilla, does it really matter what color the chalk is? lol
So true dude! Lol!

There were a couple reasons I stopped using the various colored chalks besides the blue. For one, they mark up the tables quite noticeably. And I think any room owner who sees this would have a tendency to get irked. And I then realized (duh! ) the purpose that they were made for was to be used on a matching colored cloth.

Someone once told me that the different colored chalks have different consistencies, and that the blue Masters chalk has no equal. It just grabs the best, and has the best mix of silica sand or whatever. I have seen some evidence of this, whether they just worked longer or harder on the formula for the blue I do not know. I don't think there is a huge difference though between it and the other colored Master chalks though. Maybe it's that way because it's fresher as there is a higher demand for it, opposed to the other colors that maybe sit on the shelf a little longer.

Okay, I've gone a little crazy here man. I've gotta get off of this thing! It's driving me insane!! Btw BVal, like that pic, you're crazy just like me! Love it.

Crazy kid!

Very good point. Makes me wonder why they don't make a chalk that is the same color as 95% of the pool tables in pool halls and bars. I have always found the greens to be too light or too dark. I use the Green Master Chalk which is light. I don't have a problem with it coming off the tip and making a mess on the table but I have seen it happen. After reading all of these opinions I am going to try some other colors and see what I like after that. I never thought to use tan or grey.

Master Blue. Just traditional to me I guess. But if I have to I'll use any color that is available. My main objective is to pocket balls. Not worry about the cloth.

I used to use brown masters, but quickly decided i couldnt tell how well my tip was actually chalked up, I too went to the dark side, and am honestly much happier here...

JMO Smittie but I really don't think this-

If the people of Waco where Socialists who stormed Walmart headquarters. Then raped, killed and tortured it's workers. Then fought to the death against the FBI. They'd be National Heros who stood up for what they believed in. 2nd only to Che Guerva.

I use the new Masters spruce green chalk. The light green Masters chalk seems to soft and clogs up on your tip too quickly. The spruce green works about the same as the blue Masters.

Holy cow! Master does indeed have a new color called "Spruce"! The Spruce Goose! Lol. Thanks Avenger, this is awesome news. And if it does have the same consistency as the blue then that is fantastic. I think I'm going to order a box tonight. Yes, and I too noticed the softness, and clumpiness of the light green, which I'm wondering now why they ever even came out with. But then again, Silver Cup has come out with some pretty crazy colors too, such as pink. They even have white, which I thought was kinda crazy and cool, but where the hell would you ever use that?!

Where did you find the spruce green masters? got a link?

I purchased the spruce green at Danny Veghs. But by now most of the internet sites should have it by now.

Master's Tan

I use Master's Tan chalk because you'll find that this brand (and color) does not stain the ferrule like some of the darker colors (especially the blue), and because it's Master's it doesn't leave alot of residue on the tables. I've been using it for about 3 years and I won't use anything else or any other color.

Chalk

I use blue Master chalk. Blue becuase i find that as the more traditional color, and Master because it's the best chalk i've used. Pioneer came with my table, and it was the cheapest stuff. Then i tried Silver Cup chalk but i felt that was too powdery and it my bridge hand and table would be covered with chalk after playing a session. Then i sprung for the 5$ box of Master chalk and i've never gone back. It holds on the tip very well and it's not powdery like SC.

Thanks!
