What makes a good pool Table?

Hey yall just doing a little market research. What do you think makes a good table? please email your thoughts to me ( things like best table best pockets best rails ect. )

the very best tables have six pockets. one in each
corner and two on the right side as you look north. make sure you get a table made AFTER
1749. previous to that time there was no ball return or catch pockets of any kind. the noblemen(only they could afford tables) used
the court midgets to retrieve the balls that fell to the floor. nowadays, human rights groups frown on such employment, as it goes under the sub
category of "sport\billiards\slavery".

little known factoid.....while four legs are standard, it has been found that three will suffice if you play away from the missing leg. so if you can get a discounted price of -25% with three legs, take it. it is a steal.

There are differences between a home table and a commercial table. Take a look at each of them and see for yourself. A Brunswick GC II, III or IV are all commercial tables. They have thick heavy rails and a solid sound when you tap the slate. Look at the Olhausen home tables, usually 4X8's but they do have 4 1/2X9's too. The rails are thinner and they have a hollow sound when you tap the slate. I would save my money and get a used commercial table before I'd plunk down my money for a home table. MHO for what it's worth.
 
There are plenty of "good" tables out there. Depends on what you want to $pend! My advice would be to buy a decent used table at first. Put some new 860 on it and see how fast you can wear it out. By that time, hopefully you'll be beating everybody in town. Then go ahead and fork over 5-6 grand for a nice Gold Crown or Diamond Pro and it will be the last table you'll ever have to buy! The US Open is not far away. Diamond Billiards (New Albany, Indiana) sells the tables used in the tournament for around $1500 less than a new one, and they are only used for 1 week! Not only are they sweet tables, but you can brag to your buddies that Buddy, Jose, Johnny, Efren, Earl, Corey, Mika, Ralf, etc. etc. played on it! ;) :D
 
The givens are found in advertised table webpages. I particularly do not like rubber trimings around the pocket that stick stubbornly to the cue shaft. Also, the slate should protrude beyond the edges of the pocket so as to allow a wayward object ball to rest at the mouth of the pocket and not get sucked in.

A correctly designed table will have room in the mouth of the pockets, there is a term for that, I forget it now, a straight line from tip of cushion to tip of cushion measured back to foremost tangent of radius of the pocket, it has to be a certain length, I forget it exactly. It can easily be looked up at bca web site. A good starting point for a home table design or pre fab purchase
 
I have a gold crown iv I got it for 4000 brand new, best table i played on
 
Micktmason: I got my Gold Crown from a pool and spa shop in florida. I know I got a good deal on the table but I kinda regret it , because about a month after I bought my table the WPA was in the miccosukee casino, and they were selling the tables for about 3000 including set up fees :mad: . Oh well, the table I bought included 4 brunswick cues, centennial balls,9-8 ball racks, and cue rack so that made me feel a bit better....If I would have bought the table in the WPA tourney I would have saved around 500, after buying cues, balls, etc.... on my own
 
I have a Gabriels Signature Pro that was used at the Gabriels 2003 Las Vegas Open for 3 days with cloth and balls for $4,200.00
 
GC4's in CT are well over 5000.00. the dealers all stick together and won't budge on pricing. you can buy a used one of course, but I want to buy brand new and my make it my last table, hopefully
 
The Gold Crown 4 I have for sale is less than 6 months old. It was in a pool room and got very little play, before the room owner switched it out with a Diamond. The cloth is original and looks brand new. $4200
