4. Knowledgable TD and Staff.
5. Good location, Easy to get to, Good equiptment, Food is a big Plus.
6. Consistant rules and no favoritism.
7. NO surprises like OHH, we don't have enough players so we are not having the event. IMO, this is the worste thing a location can do and it will guarantee that they have almost nobody for the next event.
Other variables would be the race or number of games played, if it is a 1 time event, yearly, monthly, weekly or if it is an event that takes place during the week or on weekends. These factors should also be considered and the entry fee, added money and race should be adjusted accordingly to fit the needs of the players.

The thing I want as a player is,to have a good time!! I want to feel like I'm part of a production! These are the reasons that I attend the Fast Eddies events regularly. Paul & Lewis put on a great production! It's fun!

In addition to what Mike and Ray said, I want the tournament rules written in stone. No changing at ANY time during the event.
I want it run at a decent pace.......if tables are free and the players are ready, then they should play

To the untrained eye it looks at times that the event is stalling when tables are open and there are some that can play. However, to keep a steady pace you sometimes need to wait for parts of the bracket to catch up before playing other matches. If TD's do not do this it creates a bottleneck and what seems like longer wait periods later in the event.
thanks everyone, I agree with kobyp, once you start/draw the tournament no more sign ups or late entry's, I hate getting there on time only to have to wait for the guy who shows 1/2 hour late.
Suppose I wanted to host a tourny. limited to 32 players and I also want a decent payout. What do you think would be an attractive entry fee?
I'm thinking of $100.00 entry fee with a payout 3 deep. HOA would get $1,000, 2nd would get $600, and third would get $400. Is the entry fee too high? Is the total payout too low?

Although the payouts are attractive to the top player, paying 3 places in a 32 player field will not attract the filler players that know they are playing for the bottom tier payouts (due to tough competition).
I have been running tournaments since i was 7 years old at my parents bar, and i have learned that although you want to draw the better players, mid-level to weaker shooters make up 60-70% of the field, and you need to give them a chance to cash in the event while paying a nice purse to the top finishers. This will help you in bringing the players back that are in the 60-70% ratio.
In a 32 player field, you want to pay a minimum of 8 places at 1/4 the field, and if you are adding money you would want to consider paying the top 12 at 3/8th the field.
Also, if you choose to have a Players Auction (be sure to check your local and state laws involving payouts in a licensed establishment), they should get paid out to at the most the top 6 in a 32 player field.
