What pin is this

Sure looks like a 5/16 pin. There's not a lot of evidence that Sherm used a 5/16-12 but the pin sure looks close to that.
Measuring 6 threads in this pic is right around half an inch.

I love it, maybe his son knows Sherm and Dickie were always trying to do something different in the design of their cues. Might be a couple out there with that pin., not many The first picture still appears to have a phenolic insert at the base of the pin, maybe someone changed it out

How is it a waste? He's thinking about buying it and needs more info. He tried asking the owner and they had no clue. Asking a bunch of cuemakers sounds like a good option.
Too bad some of them just want to piss and moan about it.
Hopefully the people who actually want to help can give him enough info to possibly get the owner to verify what it is.

More progress i contacted the seller and he sent a picture of the joint with a brass insert. However i knew sherm used the inserts with the ball shaped pilot. Looking closer to this pic im attaching here it looks like the pilot was trimmed off on the lathe. There are also letters here at the joint end. Was this something that Sherm put there to remind him of which cue this shaft was for? The brass insert doesn't mean much, because i have brass plugs threaded 7/16-14 that i can tap to anything. My guess is 5/16-18
I talked to Sherms son and he wasn't sure of the smaller pin size or if there were any that were different than the rest. All he could tell me, was that Sherm moved on to the radial pins
I may go see the cue measure myself then we know for sure.

First I am not a cuemaker. Here is a picture of an 86ish meucci original with the 5/16-18(top)...A 1989 Sherm(middle)....And a 1988/89 Schon(bottom)...Id say its definitely not an 18 pin. When I compare the Sherm/Schon they are very similar and the Sherm shaft fits the Schon. My Sherm is definitely a 5/16-14 . This doesn't mean the cue you're asking about is a 5/16-14 but it does show he made cues with that pin in that time frame.
