Who cares? Everyone should try out different cues and play with what you like and in 90% of the cases, after 3 months of play, that is going to be the one you prefer.
I knew a guy who HATED the second shaft that came with his cue. Then the ferrule or something cracked and he HAD to switch to the other shaft. By the time his 'good shaft' was repaired and returned- 3-4 months - He wouldn't even try it, he liked the 'bad shaft' so much!

Few people spin the ball with high inside like Earl so it can be done without the LDs.

In addition, most all of the female players from Taiwan use maple shafts, as do most of the players from China (Wu, Sha Sha Liu, Siming Chen, etc.)
Kevin Cheng used a solid maple shaft when he won the US Open a few years ago. Donny Mills had his best finish in the US Open (3rd) when he used a maple shaft.
I watched Brandon Shuff have a strong finish in the Open a couple of years ago, when he played with a SW for a minute.

Alex has been playing with mostly solid maple lately.
...caromish taper, not much more than 12 mm

Thanks for this great info! One additional correction, Jason Shaw has now switched sponsors and is playing exclusively with Peri cues from China.
I'm reading your list, and one thing strikes me - all these pros are using 314-2 shafts as per your post... odd that none of them are using 314-3, right? I prefer 314-2 myself, but I thought that was just me.
