what pros play with maple regular deflection shafts ?

Earls cue is very low deflection. For sure. I played with it.

Earl has never been a fan of LD. He's been playing with Gulyassy shafts for a long time.
If what you say is true, he may have been trying one of Mike's new LD shafts. I'll believe it when I see it.

What was the taper like? Was he happy with it...?

As Paris Hilton would say: "That's Huge" :D

I was told by a top asian player that predators wear out after 5-6 months at the rate they practice. They don't want to break in a new shaft that often so they are just not a possibility.

I wonder what they mean by "wear out".

Darren Appleton had been playing with the same Predator for so long that it became blue to the point where people thought he was using a Revo.

His cue without the rear extension was 64" I believe. The taper was a ridiculously long pro taper. It probably weighed under 18 oz. I play with a 314-2 and was drilling balls in with lots of spin with his cue with almost no adjustment. He seemed very happy with his cue. This was probably about 3 or 4 years ago.

So..my conclusion is..you can play with whatever cue..but technology helps you with less effort doing better shoots..

And there is no advantage of using canadian maple instead technologies..apart from that im not efren reyes or mosconi..i havent his aiming quality..

I've played with the same Predator shaft for about 10 years now.

I was pretty sure they were telling me that the diameter/taper etc would change as i recall-There are many nuances in this game that i am too much of a blacksmith to notice, so i really wasn't looking to extend that conversation and appear sillier by the minute-lol

Cant argue the facts though-most certainly in Taiwan, they just don't use them like Europe and America. Not sure of China China but i would think it is the same.

Few people spin the ball with high inside like Earl so it can be done without the LDs.
Ike always made it look easy too, but I don't know what he's using.

Ike was playing with a revo when i saw him about 15 months ago.

Thanks for this great info! One additional correction, Jason Shaw has now switched sponsors and is playing exclusively with Peri cues from China.

I'm reading your list, and one thing strikes me - all these pros are using 314-2 shafts as per your post... odd that none of them are using 314-3, right? I prefer 314-2 myself, but I thought that was just me.

Dammn right , i found it odd at 1st and actually switch to the 3's but switch back to the 2's not long after.
Prob more comfortable and used to the deflection and hit of the 2's
The 3's does hit more stiff.

Most of the pinoy using predator has switch to the vantage after their 2's gets too thin.

Wow , no wonder i noticd jayson wearing a new patch.
Dude was winning alot of titles with his moochi , hope he gets used to his new peri peri fast

Yeah, the 'wear out' preventing use thing is silly.

Anybody with any sense at all that is in a position like that would surely know that you just get 2 or 3 shafts and start using them any different points, so you always have a couple in the not-new and not-old categories at all times.

But, disposable $300 shafts? Hmmmph.

sent you a greenie for this
thanks for the effort ..

Thanks , i might as well add in a couple if anyone is interested in knowing what the pros play with.

Roberto gomez- eddi cohen butt 314-2 shaft
Jonas magpanyay- mezz butt wd700 shaft
Anton raga-predator ikon -3142 shaft
Jundel mazon- predator butt 3142 shaft
Patrick gonzales- al bautista n 314-2 ahaft then
Predator roadline 314-3 and mezz expro lately
Wu kun lin- lots of ebony southwest nd zen cues lately
Roland garcia- philipino custom butt n ld shaft
Ronnie alcano- anyone who wld be sucker enough to sponsor him a cue, prolly change his cue morenoften then he shave his moustache
Hsieh chia chen - michael volmmer maple shaft n current lucky cue- maple shaft
Busty - bear cues- maple shaft
Dennis grabe- mezz cue wx700 shaft
Scott frost - qb custom

I played with Shuff an hour or two at DCC this year. He mentioned specifically that he hadn't been playing at that well..

:-)

Historically, shuff has used both reg maple and LD adtermarkets...flipping back and forth occasionally.

I played with a maple shaft from when I started in 1994 til 2011. I switched in 2011 and went into a slump. It took me 4 years to adjust. I kinda miss the backhand English I was good at with a maple shaft.

In Argentina there is no players with maple..only starters..
And what do you should adjust to change maple?
And always said me why i didnt buy 314 shaft predator..but i fell good with maple.

We have disposable softball and baseball bats at the $400 level. They last a few seasons, and that's about it.

And shoes that cost $200 bucks...there's money in them thar diamonds.

Yep, but they're not Bostonians, but rather Bostanians. Counterfeits with a similar name.

Gotta be aware. Sort of like the genuine Predator, and that imitation Predeoir, or something like that......?

All the best,
WW

Just curious why you switched to LD? And why you didn't switch back right away if you played worse for 4 years?

BTW - Really enjoyed your match with Siming. Hope to see you match up more!

Damn, so 200 just gets you in the door these days, eh? Ouch.

Been a loong time since I had cleats that didn't go with bike pedals.

I switched because I wanted to increase my inside English accuracy. That happened immediately but the problem was everything else went downhill. I did switch back right away. But I knew deep down I should use LD so I went back again. 4 years later everything else caught up and I got that extra edge I wanted.
