What shafts and tips are the pros using these days?

whatever makes you shoot better, if you feel that you will shoot more accurately with a LD shaft then chances are you will shoot better. Alot of times things like these act as a placebo when the real problem is in the head.
Does this mean LD shafts are gimmicks? Iono

But if it makes me shoot better and enstill more confidence then irregardless of what it actually does it may just be worth it.

Sorry if this is a little off topic.....

The main reason I use a predator shaft is that if I happen to lose my cue I can order a shaft online and in 2 days put together a cue that plays nearly identical to my current cue.

Good luck doing the same if you play with a custom cue makers shaft.

Kinda lame, Dud. I would walk out without my purse or coat, or even my car keys before I would walk out without my cue case...and my cue goes with me everywhere, including the bathroom. I never let my kids outta my sight, and the same goes for my cue. Never left kids or cues in the car, either. Priorities.

Many of the Tiger tips are very popular, like the Sniper.

The Talisman is a great tip, it will play just as good as the Morri, for half the cost. Excellent quality. :thumbup:

Really?? The point is I am not hooked on one shaft or a single cue only. I can play with almost any butt end as long as it has a predator shaft.

I have never lost a cue before but If disaster strikes--> I have a plan.

plus,

I spend allot of time in two cities and don't have to worry bringing my cue with me on the plane.

I don't leave my cue in my car either. I agree this is a very bad habit to have.

Well maybe it isn't the main reason I use a predator... I should have re read my post before I clicked the submit button. But it is a nice perk of a production shaft.

For the record, I'm not saying a LD shaft plays better than anything. All I'm saying is that even if it performs exactly the same way and you can't tell a difference, if someone was willing to pay you to play with it, you definitely would. These guys aren't "downgrading" their equipment in order to make money as some of you try to make it seem. If they can play just as well with any number of shafts, why not just take the one that pays you the most? They aren't going to play with something that plays worse just for the money.

I make it a practice to get spare shafts for any custom I may acquire. Beyond that, I have an old Helmstetter production cue as a back-up, that plays close enough to cover me in a pinch.

Now, should something catastrophic happen and I lose my cues through no fault of my own...I am sure I could find a very suitable player in very short time. :wink:

It doesn't make the difference, but sometimes it can be the difference.

Have you ever hit a cue that felt horrible to you? Or at least a cue that you didn't like? Think you could play just as well with that cue as you can with your daily player?

I have 3 predator 314-2 shafts which play identically and If I ordered one tomorrow I am confident it would be the same. I have not had the same experience with custom shafts they all tend to play a little different and I have favored one over another.

I switch between the 3 and don't even notice which one is which.

I heard from some pro's that predator shafts after year or so start to play differently.
They change shafts every year because of that...

Everyone's preference's are different. If everyones were the same, this world would be very boring. If everyone used Maple shafts and Triangle tips, there's no debates to happen!

I personally use a Wayne Holmes custom cue set (player, breaker and jump), and have 2 player shafts, 2 breaker shafts and 1 jump shaft. The 2 player shafts are Maple and play near identical (IMO...NO shaft plays the same as the next), which is good enough for me if I need to use my 2nd shaft. I practiced with both shafts to see how they performed, and I was still able to play well (shock horror eh?).

Ive tried 3 'LD' shafts before (Predator 314 & 314-2 and OB1 - they were/are most popular). I liked them, I could understand why people like them but just not for me. If you have a good stroke, then you can play with anything. I could play well with a Pred/OB if I wished...but I dont, as I prefer my cue set up and cant see me changing for the rest of my pool player career.

As for tips, there's soooooo many available now-a-days that its a case of take your pick. No matter what equipment you use, you will have to adjust...period. Change of tip, change of shaft, change of cue, change of cue weight etc etc.

Whatever gives one confidence should carry on using it. Dont chop & change
