What should I do

Hi there I am currently shooting pool with a special edition cue made by Mcdermott called the Tournament of Champions cue. I know they made very few of these and as far as I am concerned it is the best looking cue Mcdermott has ever made. My problem is I can't make my mind up on what to do with it. I spoke with Mcdermott and I can get it totaly refurbished with a leather wrap and a new shaft for $200 or I can get the same thing done but with an I shaft for $300. I love this cue but I've been in the mood for a change lately so I don't know what to do. Also i've never played with an I shaft so I don't know if I'd even like it. Any suggestions or info on the I shaft would be helpful. thanx

I can't offer any advice on which shaft or cue to play with, but I did want to say that I think your McDermott Tournament of Champions cue is quite beautiful. I love the purple color in the points. Thanks for sharing! :)

I would rather stick to the McDermott cue.Just like JAM had told u,i also dont have any info or suggestions about the shaft, sorry. But i really admire the cue with the purple color. It looks great if u use it,instead of just selling it or getting it away from u.

Thank You

Do the refinish and new standard shaft. Then buy a nice 1X2 tooled leather case. Retire the cue to it's new leather home. Personally I don't like leather wraps. I'd replace the existing wrap with a speckled purple to match the ring work. Not too much purple, just a hint. Maybe black linen wrap with purple speckle or something like that.

Funny they must have more than one Tournament of Champions cue, the one I've seen before was quite different than that one. It was also quite nice and I almost bought it. At any rate, nice cue. I'd go with the refinish and leather wrap, but I might skip the shaft all together. You've got a shaft you've been playing with and like, continue to use it. If you want to get a shaft to increase it's value get the standard shaft and set it aside. IMO all the low-deflection shaft hype is overblown.

I would have the cue re-finished as well, however, I would send to Scott @ Proficient or Brian @ BCM. I had an old McDermott HD-1 that I sent to them, and I was less than happy with the re-finish...bubbles. Once I got it back, it started peeling at the joint and butt almost immediately. I paid 140.00 for the refinish and new ferrule on the shaft. I wound up giving it to my husband.
