What so great about Westinghouse Micarta?

It's an amazing piece of industrial history and you are right Micarta and many other materials can be pretty toxic and PPE is a must if you don't want to slowly kill yourself..
Products made especially for the cue industry is a relatively new phenomenon. That's why you see the use of Micarta, canvas and phenolic, linen thread and 3/8-10 screws, all things taken from other industries and incorporated into cue making
Yep. I was introduced to G10 in the early '80s when dealing with PCB shops. The stuff is hard on tooling, and part of our cost was related to how many through holes were on a circuit board. Essentially we paid for their drill bit consumption for our production run. We paid attention to our designs to minimize hole count.

Now I have a G10 pin in one of my cues (Prather full splice).
