I wasn't suggesting to use them for prophylactics ;-) i thought we were talking about something to cover the butt of a pool cue that is removable, so you can access the threads, if you wish to use extensions etc. ;-)
thought it wouldn't be hard to punch about a 1/4" hole and then one could still access the threads to use an extension without removing it.
never tried one, it says they fit 1 1/4" and pretty stretchy, That seemed seemed about the right size. I'm seeing them at $10.47 for an 8 pack.. not so bad really..
I was thinking of just making a rubber plug wiht a pin that fits the threaded hole so I could pop it out, just so if my cue touches the floor it doesn't get damaged by the "hard hit"

Most carom billiard players use rubber sleeves -- where the wrap is on some pool cues. They do that so their hand doesn't slip even for a light grip. Here are some examples:

sometimes in snooker I want to give a ball just a very light tap and Ill just unscrew the butt and use the 3/4 shaft. it seemed to work ok for me since I was used to doing that on my little table in the kitchen with stuff in the way of a proper cue and proper stroke. It may be sort of similar but it's just a way to make the cue really lightweight, for a little "tap", rather than an actual "shot" In Carom it's common to do those types of shots than in "regular" pool or snooker. would one then use a very light cue. like a 10 ounce rather than whatever is average , maybe 18 or so.. ?
using half a cue looks a bit odd I guess.. I'll also do it sometimes when I have a wall or pipe or something in the way, rather than looking for a shortie.
I have a 3' at home and I sometimes use it but it has a great big 8 ball tip ( 1/2" or so) I still have some issues with walls but I'm planning to set up some cues that are just about 6" shorter with a 10mm tip for 2 1/16 "or so sized balls. Many here seem to just use 2 1/4 balls I think. so 1/2" is normal.
Ive been trying to figure out how to make one up , not wanting to just cut the end off a good snooke cue. the encumbrances I have are not so much that I need to go down to a 3' cue. a lot of the snooker cues have extensions included, but I haven't seen one with a shorter extension than the regular butt, and any extensions I do have wont thread on with the shaft itself.
it doesn't seem like I have a very unusual circumstance having some obstacles, many tables do because everyone doesn't' live in a giant mansion.
I keep thinking someone should make a cue that has the ability to be shortened easily but a regular length otherwise. I don't think this would take a huge feat of engineering.
sorry if I threw things too far OT. I've been trying to think up a logical way just so my cue's butt has a bit of rubber for protection and that is a bit different topic - as is adjusting the length. perhaps It's a better subject for a separate thread.
