What to do?

I live at least an hour from any decent poolrooms. My crappy work schedule only really allows me to play on Saturday or Sundays. Which means no practice time during the week unless I want to play on a bar table, which frankly represents no challenge to me. I have broke and run 8 racks in 9 ball and 10 racks in 8 ball on a 7' bar table. I prefer 9" tabels. So, do I seek out tournaments on Saturday afternoons? Or do I look for a money game? What will work best to further improve my game? Just frustrated that I live so far from a decent poolroom and trying to make the best of what little time I have to play. The last 2 tournaments I have entered I placed 1st and 3rd, both 9 ball. I am a decent player just looking to improve. Suggestions?

If you have room for a used Gold Crown in your house or garage... that is the route I'd go. You will always have a table close, and you won't even have to give your ID for a set of balls.

There are 3 really, buy a table (or meet someone that has one), drive to the rooms (I drive 40 minutes one way to both the rooms I play in even though there are 2 rooms 15 minutes from me), or move. You can also shrink so the 7' tables look like 9' tables to you, that is harder to pull off.

I met a guy on here that lives 30 minutes from me with a Diamond table in his house whom I visit a few times a month to play there with my son.

Just curious, what would you rate your game, B, A, or AA level? Can you beat the ghost playing 9 ball, on a 9 ft, with 4 1/2" pockets consistently? Where do you live?

I would say I am a strong B player. 25 years ago I would have said A player, but time away from the game and aging eyes has not helped. The poolrooms I go to only have 8' tables, and yes I can beat the ghost on those. I live in North Texas.

Did you have a lot of "waiting time" at these tournaments? If so, that may not be an efficient use of your limited time.
