What to expect with 10 ball, skill wise

OK, coming from a mainly 8 ball background I am working hard on rotational games like 10 ball. They are obviously more popular once you leave the pub. I guess I'm just curious how you would describe a players rating vs 10 ball. This has been hashed over a lot with 8 ball and 9 ball. So please describe how a d,c,b,a player would fair playing 10 ball. I'm not sure if this post makes much sense, I'm just curious what I'm up against. I have only practiced this game.

Thanks!

Just to give you an idea, the only one with any real chance to beat the 10 ball ghost would be the "A" player.

Well thats a good start, I think this game frustrates me bacause I can usually see my way out but have a hard time getting there.

That extra ball makes a world of difference, both with pocketing balls on the break, and position. On a tight 9 foot, it is quickly becoming a player favorite, Matt

10-ball rating

If you want to track your offensive 10-ball progress with ball in hand to start, you can try Joe Tucker's 10-Ball drill:

Rack and break the balls. If you scratch on the break, there is no point penalty, except that you must spot any balls that you made on the break. Take ball in hand and try to run out.

If you make the 10-ball early, leave it down and keep shooting. Your inning ends when you miss, scratch or pocket all the balls. Count up the number of balls you made on that rack and that's your score for the rack. (If you fouled on your last shot, don't count any balls made on that shot.)

Play 10 racks. Maximum score is 100 over 10 racks, and the idea is to keep a running average of multiple 10-rack sessions. Here's his rating breakdown:

Pro ............... 70 and above
Short Stop .... 60-69
A ................... 50-59
B ................... 40-49
C ................... 30-39
D ................... 20-29
Beginner........ 20 and under

The drill has me humbled about my 10-balliness, but I like having an average that I can try to improve upon.

Thats just what I was looking for. I've been playing the same drill based on someones 9 ball equivalent posted on here recently. I think I will be OK, Thanks.
