What type of adhesive to use?

In Process of reassembling a three pice slate 8 ft table and one of the wood frames has separated from the slate. Was wondering what the best adhesive to use to glue it back onto the slate.
Also was going to recover it in championship invitational cloth and wondering if this is a good cloth to use? I plan on doing all the work my self with the aid of some good you tube videos. I am pretty much a beginner player and setting up this table for home use and to get through long Vermont winters.
Thanks. All advice is appreciated.

For you first install, I would use the cheaper cloth. Invitational would be fine to practice with. For not too much more you could go with the Mercury Ultra. Better playing cloth.

When you cover the rails, make sure the feather stips fit tight. Nothing is worse then doing a good job and then have the cloth slip out from under the strip at a later date. At that point you are screwed. You probably wont have enough material left to redo it. If you have one that's loose, replace it. I would just buy all new feather strips and start fresh. They are cheap enough. I have used a small bead of contact cement out of a squeeze bottle on loose feather strips with good results. But future installs might be more complicated because it might need removed. Thin strips of tape on the feather stip tightens them up too.

For the wood backer to slate, any good construction adhesive will do the trick.

An old friend of mine used to use an Elmer's glue stick. One pass down 3 sides (no need to glue the top) You don't need a lot of holding force, just enough to keep the cloth from moving.

I prefer to shim the featherstrips with masking tape, as needed. Determining how much is a matter of experience.

I used contact cement because that's what I had available. Elmer's would work in that situation.

I can usually tell if any feather strips are loose when I pull them. The one I glued was definitely looser then the others. Could have shimmed it I suppose. Didnt have tape with me.
