I have a Longoni cue and I want to replace the shaft with a carbon fiber shaft but I don't know what type of joint pin is on the cue?

Here's what the joint pin looks like:

So can someome tell me what kind of joint pin is on my cue, in addition to recommending a carbon fiber shaft that will fit it (i.e., who or what company sells it)?

Is it possible to have the joint pin replaced? I live in Maryland, and we have a custom cuemaker by the name of Phillippi Custom Cues, so I was wondering is it possible to just have him replace the joint pin on the cue with some standard type joint pin (preferrably a quick release pin type)? Is that something that can be done?

The thread and pitch appears to be 5/16 14 ....
See if you can find a joss cue shaft to screw onto your cue....
If that works,
Order a 5/16 14 FLAT-FACED JOINT TYE for your cue-
Probably Rhino can make you a CF ....
If you go with rhino-
make sure-send them this pic-rhino seems to have a good product , great service and price-
my friend ordered a shorter version cf shaft for his cue,
and took a couple weeks to get the item

Mr Phillippi can do what ever you need.
He's a double G.
Great guy,
Great Cue maker!

Truth...

And I think the move for Mr longoni here is to leave that pin and have a shaft matched to it.

What would you recommend?
The VP2 is available with inserts, if you want to stay proprietary to Longoni. The original in this Cue to my knowledge are not readily available. I tried. But they did sell me the set up for the VP2.
Overall, tough call. Theres uni loc and I've also seen a quick release ball screw even though I haven't purchased the ball screw version yet.

So I took my Longoni cue to my area cue maker, and he advised me not to modifying such a beautiful cue. So he inspected and measured the joint, and said it was a 3/8ths by 16 size pin, and we found out that the McDermott "Defy" quick release carbon fiber shaft fits it perfectly. So I'll be able to get a carbon fiber shaft without having to modify the cue. Now I have to decide if I want a 12mm or 12.5mm Defy shaft? But I'm also open to any other carbon fiber shaft makers that might be cheaper in price? Any suggestions?

I tried a Defy, did not like it. Had a very dead noodle hit to it compared to the other CFs I've tried and owned, including:
  • Rhino (12.5mm, own, wish I got a 29")
  • Paul Allers custom (12.5, owned, didn't play as well as the Rhino)
  • Revo (12.4mm, demoed, liked it except for the price)

Or
Make the insert and put it in whatever shaft you wish!

I'm open to purchasing a Luna Nera shaft, but I want to make sure it'll properly fit my cue, especially since I purchased the cue about 21 years ago, and the cue is a discontinued model, which means it's joint pin style could possibly be discontinued as well? Anyway, I sent an email to the Longoni company asking the same question, and I'm expecting a response in a few days?

Also, since it was determined that the McDermott "Defy" quick release carbon fiber shaft is a perfect fit, are there any carbon fiber shaft makers that could make me a shaft to fit my cue?

Well I contacted Longoni and asked if their Luna Nera shaft would fit my over 20 year old Longoni cue, and here's their reply?

So it appears that the only Longoni shafts that will fit my cue are their S20 and S30 canadian maple shafts, and I really would prefer to put a C/F shaft on this cue. So I've been reading about the "Whyte Carbon" shafts and the "Bull Carbon" shaft that both come with interchangeable joints, so I wonder if they would have a joint that would fit this/my 20 year old Longoni cue?

Seriously doubt it. Very little demand for that odd pin. Change out the pin or buy another cue.
