What would get you to go to a tournament?

What's the minimum required for you to attend a tournament?

Thanks for the responses so far, folks. They're giving me a pretty good idea of where I'll probably be heading.

My priority is going to be a bank pool tournament. That's something that doesn't really exist out here and I think even spectators would enjoy watching people pull off some good banking, especially the later matches. From what's been said here, I think a $10 or $20 entry with $100 added, race to 2 short-rack tournament, capped at 16, would work pretty well for 4 Diamond barboxes.

Instead of the APA tournament, I think I will just cover the $1 increase in match fees for 3 APA 8b teams and 2 9b teams. We'll see how that goes after the first month. The teams are pretty much all friends and half of what I've done has been for, and made possible by, the league players.

Could be willing to see if somebody else wants to run a single-game style tournament. I'm not really interested in holding just any old tournament, because there are enough of those already in our area.. not too many, but most just get the same old crowd that's there only for the tournament.

Who knows, I may end up looking at putting Diamonds in other locations and doing something different there.

I'm trying to nail down my plans for a few monthly tournaments. They will be played on 4 Diamond barboxes.

1. Single-game tournament with winner and loser sides

2. APA tournament, using handicaps - may be limited to teams that play out of bar

3. Short-rack bank pool

What I now need to do is figure out just how much I should be putting back into the tournaments. How much entry and added monies would get you to go to a tournament?

Edit: FYI, the typical buy-in around Portland is $5. I'd like to see that increase, though.

There's a few bars that do them around where I live, they have $5 buy-ins and a .50 cent per game fee. I never win but I will usually go if I can make them just for fun--I can't speak for everyone but I just love the game, any chance I get to play it--I do it.
