Hi there I am currently shooting pool with a special edition cue made by Mcdermott called the Tournament of Champions cue. I know they made very few of these and as far as I am concerned it is the best looking cue Mcdermott has ever made. My problem is I can't make my mind up on what to do with it. I spoke with Mcdermott and I can get it totaly refurbished with a leather wrap and a new shaft for $200 or I can get the same thing done but with an I shaft for $300. I love this cue but I've been in the mood for a change lately so I don't know what to do. Also i've never played with an I shaft so I don't know if I'd even like it. Any suggestions or info on the I shaft would be helpful. thanx

Get the i -shaft there realy good and they hit very well!!!

Do the refinish and new standard shaft. Then buy a nice 1X2 tooled leather case. Retire the cue to it's new leather home. Personally I don't like leather wraps. I'd replace the existing wrap with a speckled purple to match the ring work. Not too much purple, just a hint. Maybe black linen wrap with purple speckle or something like that.

Why can the shaft if you like the way the orignal plays? Go with the $200 job and buy a I shaft later or have them also match a I shaft when it is in the shop and have both. That way you will have no regrets about losing the original shaft.

If you're going to retire it don't change the wrap, Get it refurbished and then getcha an I shaft with a new cue. My reasoning is the cue may be worth more down the road (way down) if it is refurbished to original condtion. Upgrades that help custom cues values sometimes don't apply to production cues. Just a thought. Nice looking cue btw.
