I am in two leagues. One a 3 person team league with 48 players, and one a two person league with 32 players. Both leagues you play one on one and use a handicaped points system where winner gets 100 points on one league and 105 points on the other, and loser gets 10 points for ea ball.
Ea league operator runs 3 leagues per week, and tournaments most weekends and one on a Thursday or Friday night. We have some pretty big paybacks at the end of the year, and one league does a 50/50 raffle every league night which really contributes to the prize fund.
Both leagues are very well run with virtually zero arguments. Both league operators as far as I know take no money for themselves, but do take out for supplies, and table time to the pool hall owner. Also both leagues at the end of the year provide a itemized printout of all expenses and prize money. We now have 8 Diamond tables for both leagues.
Both league operators do it for the love of pool. I will say though that one of the league operators owns the bar and pool hall so their is some incentive to get customers there, but he also sponsors many teams, sponsors WPBA, and has started sponsoring free youth pool instruction with some very good pool players volunteering their time to help.
We also have a 9 ball challenge at the start of our 3 person league, as in addition to the 8 Diamond bar tables, they also have a 9' Diamond. They sell tickets for $2 ea before the start of league and your better players buy quite a few to up their chances to get drawn. You have to make a ball on the break and then make at least your first ball after that to start collecting. You can quit anytime after making your first ball other than the one on the break. If you think you can keep making balls you can keep shooting, or if you think you might miss, you can stop. If you keep shooting and miss, you loose everything.
The dollar amt per ball changes all the time depending on previous players. Some nights its $300ish per ball. One player last year I think won about $3000+ over the year.
We do not use fargo. We use the a scoring system by Stick The Rock, I think it is a free system and was designed by one of our players. You can look up Stick The Rock online, I think they have well over 100 leagues using it.
