What's the best way to travel with your cues?

I live in Toronto (Canada) and I'm going to Charleston, South Carolina for a tournament this weekend, what is the best way to travel with my cues?

In the past, I usually put the whole cue case (w/ the cues inside) into a large duffle bag with my clothes.

any other suggestions that still give me peace of mind that my cues will be okay?
 
my case is a 2x4, hard tube case, so I think duffle bag will be okay.

I'm just thinking of alternatives because I'm usually only allowed 1 chec-in luggage, but this time I'm flying southwest and they allow 2 luggages. So I'm just thinking if there is a way to have a smaller luggage for my clothes and another way to check-in my cue?

but I don't know how much I trust checking in my cue case alone, especially since I don't have a lock on it.
