Whats the deal with bumpers?

Interesting about the mace being used to find the centre of the cue ball, i will have to have a look at that when i get home tonight. Its amazing what you can learn if you just ask.

the wedge

As I understand it from magazine articles and old illustrations, it went like this: In the begining, pool was a croquet like game played on grass with mallots..."maces". When the game came indoors, the mallot heads became thin flat crosspieces on the end of the handle. They were used for a push stroke. Then someone turned thier "mace" around backwards, using the crosspiece as the handle and the former handle end to hit the ball for better accuracy. The flat "wedge" on the butt , which was now the business end of the stick, was added so the stick would slide accross the cloth with less tendancy to roll. Then someone took off the crosspiece and turned the stick back arround so they could use the thin end of the handle, where the crosspiece used to be, to hit the ball for still better accuracy. The "wedge" remained, although not needed. Leather tips and chalk followed.

Welcome back Mr. Snyder.
I see that this is your first post since the Brianna ring-cutter ordeal.
I'm not looking to open old wounds but you've been away for a while. How did that ever work out for you?

I'm not into 'high pressure' sales, basically because I don't like when it's done to me, but if you're in need of a good ring-cutter saw & mandrel, I'd really like to help you out. I guarantee the transaction would be more to your liking. Please feel free to review my 'iTrader' and I'm sure that many of the CMs here would offer testimonial.

KJ- You certainly don't seem high pressure to me, and I appreciate the heads up.
I have a setup which I made that works, but yours looks very nice and I've read the compliments. I'll try yours next time I need a blade. I understand that it is well beyond prototype stage.
Thanks, Robin
PS/ let's not hijack this thread though.

Robin,
Thank you & you're very welcome.
I'd considered the hi-jack thing but since the OP had given his thanx to all who replied, I thought it would be OK to give you a public "Hey & welcome back".
