Ive never seen a masse cue in person but from the looks of them in the wanted for sale they look like jump cues. Are they different lengths? different weights? or is it just a jump cue with a leather tip?

Thanks

Are they different lengths? Yes the butt of a masse cue is longer than a jump cue and also, the shaft of a masse cue is shorter than a standard shaft.

different weights? Yes genereally speaking masse cues range from 24-29oz's

Masse cues are heavier than jump cues and much stiffer made. They usually vary from normal full size cue playing weights of 19 ounce on up to some that top 30 ounces. They vary in length according to the players taste, but are shorter than normal playing cues. I built myself a really heavy one and broke all the seams apart on my three piece slate using it. I could do just as well with a 19 ounce cue without as much table damage, so I retired the really heavy one when I had the table fixed.

The reading that I've done, and I'm no expert at all, I can Masse but cannot jump to save my a$$, shows that a jump cue is lighter and less dense in the ferrule area of the shaft to avoid squirt. A masse is heavy and really stiff. My question is, how can a jump cue be combined with a break cue?? break cues are heavy and stiff usually, not at all like a jump cue requirements? I have seen firsthand, Mike Massey make full length table jumps into a shoe, and do awesome masses using the same Mcdermett cue with a predator 314 shaft, so I know it has a lot to do with technique more than equipment, but still......
