What's the difference between a spectator chair and a regular bar or kitchen stool?

I got barber chairs. They're really comfortable and look cool.

The difference? Back support, arm support, foot rest, cup holder, all with greater width than a standard bar stool for comfort bc you are constantly up and down from playing. Width in the arms to hold a cue away from the chair sitter. Most bar stools lack in most of these areas and notching a bar stool for a cue does not work bc the cue is then resting too close to the sitter.

Thanks, Mike! I notice that the antiques some others have suggested don’t have cup holders. Americans were tougher in the old days!

I like this type. A few factors to NewFloridian.(Welcome Aboard) Room size and price. Spectator chairs are expensive. I went with adjustable stools from Target and bought seat pads from Amazon. Also have the spectator chair as shown.

I have a Legacy brand spectator chair seat hight 26.5" and a matching spectator bench seat hight 24" The bench is very practical, it holds a couple of sets of balls, cleaning equipment, chalk, soft cue cases etc. There's always a couple of guys on the bench jabbering away. I also have tall folding directors chair, 30" seat hight which I use the most. I use a cue clamp on the arm.

About ten years ago my wife and I were furniture shopping in NC. I found and test sat a very high end spectator chair. Roll and pleated red leather seat and back with under seat storage, leather lined drink holders, the works. It was the most comfortable spectator chair I ever sat in. I could watch a movie and be very happy. $2,500. I passed. If I had it to do over now I might just buy it. Don't know the height, about 26-28".

Cue clamp! I hadn't heard about that, but I see it at https://www.pooltables.com/accessories/billiards-q-clip-cue-holder

The sink-in-and-relax spectator chair seems to be available at https://blattbilliards.com/collections/chairs/products/the-billiards-spectator-chair (priced so high that they won't even hint at it on the web site).

I have the diamond chair set. They are well built for sure and have a cue holder integrated in the side of each chair which is convenient. I like the center shelf for my speaker. You do sit up tall and straight. If I was to do it over again I have seen some old barber style chairs that are recovered and look awesome. They look like they have tons of padding. These would be a lot more comfortable imho. Current chairs I have do help complete the "diamond look" with the table and light though. Shop around for different styles. If you can find something local that will be a lot cheaper than shipping something.
I have 2 of those I bought in 99. They are great.

It can depend on the opponent. When I play a really good player I want one of these

Against a low level player. Easy to jump out of to get to the table hehe.
Those chairs are actually under $60 for the pair on Amazon but looks like you want to have guests on the low end of the wright and size scale for them.

I really like Barstool Comforts for chairs. I've purchased things from them without issue and the customer service is great. You need some deep pockets for some of their stuff, though.

At those prices, I'm buying a second pool table LOL I would go look for some used stuff that is well made, would probably cost 1/4 the original cost.

Patience and thriftiness saved money.

Three solid wood stools for $4 each from a Church sale. Spectator chair for $100 cash on Facebook Marketplace.

The spectator chair is my favorite.

Congrats on your new table. For my home room, the last thing I wanted was huge heavy, super expensive, traditional spectator chairs. The problem is most bar stools are not very comfortable unless you are well, leaning up against a bar.

My room is just big enough to accomodate a 9ft table, not much extra space for furniture, etc. I wanted a few 30” bar height chairs with a proper back/seat & footrest that would be comfy, looked cool & matched our room decor, and would be light weight & easy to move around without damaging our nice hard wood floors. And not break the bank.

I looked long & hard and finally settled on these. All Modern has lots of other unique styled bar/counter stools at reasonable prices… way cooler than the stuff you see on Billiards supply houses & typical furniture shops.

They are surprisingly stable & comfy, and even though they are “pleather”, the styling & stitching is high quality and looks great. $225 ish for a pair, not too bad. 2 yrs later, no regrets. In fact we like them so much we got another matching set of counter height ones for our kitchen nook table.

For drinks, munchies, I just installed small rustic wood shelves on each wall. For cues, just grab a Claw.

Crappy pics below to give you some idea. (Fat gray cat is optional). Good luck setting up your room.

One thing to keep in mind is make sure you know where your cues are going during play especially with company. If that's gonna be apart of the chair set up swiveling chairs and cues don't mix. Non swivel chairs you can put a cue clamp on the side of one and hold several cues. I do recommend chairs with arm rests. Versatile and nice to have somewhere to put your arms.
