After watching a tantalizing game of one pocket this afternoon which lasted twohours

I was curious as to what is the single longest game of one pocket ?

long one pocket

Freddy B was telling a story to Incardona that he was watching these two pretty good players in a high stakes one pocket match. When Freddy sat down to watch they each needed three balls. Two hours later they each needed four balls. Freddy went home

Certainly not the longest but accu-Stats has a tape of one rack with Steve Cook and either Hopkins or Nick Varner I can't remember, called the "100 minute rack"
At one point Cook shoots an amazing take out shot. Varner has like half the rack in he pocket area and Steve takes them all out with one shot.

I watched a match at the Red's Tourney in Houston between Howard Vickery and another player whose name I don't remember. A race to 3. Three hours into it, they were tied at one all. I remember Howard having easy balls in front of his pocket numerous times and wouldn't shoot at them. It was hard to watch. I didn't stick around to see the end.

Funny thing was, in the same tourney, Keith McCready's finals match was over in about 30 to 35 minutes. He went 8 and out in two of the three games during which he drank a six pack of beer. LOL

A match I will never forget, mid 80's, Villa Capri hotel, Sid Mann's River City Open, Austin, TX.
They put together a one pocket event to go along with the 9-ball. Races to 5 if I remember correctly. Buddy Hall drew Nick Varner. At the end of the first day, the score was 2-1. Buddy looked over at me and said...."he has shot 42 consecutive safeties"....Nick never shot at his hole until all the balls were up table. Every now and then after bunting the balls for ages, a ball would sneak out of the clump and Buddy would bank it straight back. He ended up winning the match the next day.

Not as long as some of the ones mentioned here, but a few years ago Corey Deuel and Dennis Orcollo played one game for nearly an hour in the one pocket tourney in Vegas. I paid for that on the stream and it felt like I was paying to be tortured! ;)

Everytime a one pocket game was timed with a clock the clock wore out before the game ended.
they tried counting sunrises but the guy in charge of the count went blind from too much sun exposure.

Longest Match

A few years back at Derby City, Darrin Appleton was playing Tom Spencer(Now deceased) from Chicago in the one pocket tournament that is a race to three.

Darrin won the first two games fairly quickly. Tom went into the Chcago Squeeze and the third game lasted around three hours. Tom eventually won the match in a little over six hours. San Jose Dick McMorran and I sweated most of the match.

I have played Artie Bodendorfer twice around 7/8 years ago. The first time was a race to seven that took 13 hours. The second time was also a race to seven that lasted 16+ hours.

Artie likes to look em over.:D
