What's your ideal pool hall?

A 24 hours never close Q Master with a gourmet restaurant with some big screen tv is my idea of a perfect pool hall.

Har - well, kinda the reason I ask is, I've been pondering pursuing trying to open up a room. Where I live (Boulder, CO), there's really not any good rooms in the immediate area. The only place I know of in town that has 9-footers isn't a bad place in general, but every table they have is covered in drink stains, the lamps are falling apart, pockets are getting detached (i.e. balls fall out the bottom), etc.

Thing is, I have no real clue on doing such a thing, so I imagine it's just going to be one of those "Wouldn't be sweet if..." things. *shrug*

Is that the place on the hill in the lower level? Or did that place close?

Unfortunately I don't see you getting real estate or a lease cheap enough in Boulder. Maybe I'm wrong, but that would worry me there. I don't know if there is enough market outside of the college kids, and they aren't a market for a real room IMO.

Maybe where you are - Lafayette did your title say? - if it has grown, but I dunno how it is. Seems like the north suburbs of Denver have supported a place or two, but Boulder? I think a long time ago there may have been a place, but I think it has been years since one was there. But it has been a while since I've been in Boulder.

Grr, yeah, I'd forgotten about the place on the Hill. It's been a while since I was there. They have some decent tables there.

Lafayette itself is a postage stamp (just east of Boulder a few miles) - it couldn't support a real room. And yes, the real estate issue in Boulder is on my mind as well.

I know, there's probably no way I could pull it off anyhow. :D

Perfect pool room:

Lots of tables pool, billlards, and snooker.

Second floor setting, (nostalgic).

No bar, no pinball, no juke box.

Plenty of "players" but open and friendly to all levels..

Counter man with a facial scar.

All equipment well maintained.

Closest room that comes to mind is Chris's in Chicago.

I really like how California Billiard Club is set up- 30 gold crowns(8 are very tight).. 2 awesome heated billiard tables, and 2 english snooker tables. But you really can't beat Hardtimes in Sacramento. One of the best features is the Beauty school right next door. On Saturdays there are about 100 hotties in the parking lot, and coming into Hardtimes for lunch. Oh, and you got Tom in Cincy for a tournament director. :p

There was a place up in Springfield Oregon that had one feature I really liked. Their 'pit' was enclosed from the railbirds, and had clean plexiglass all around. You could kibitz with someone while eating your food, see all the action, and no one would hear your comments. Conversely, I never heard anyone's voice from behind the glass either.

Good suggestions...but

As a billiard parlor owner I love seeing these posts...I would also love to see what the typical guy thinks all of these suggestions COST. Go ahead and do a basic accounting structure of what rent/ utilities etc would cost on a 40 or 50 table room. ( I have a small room (17 tables)...electric is about $3800/ month.) But I guess the ideal pool room would be solar powered so electric is free! Affordable pool and 10cent wings fit into the equation where? Good suggestions all, surprised no one has topless ball rack girls..for free of course. And you cant throw ALL the unruly patrons out. That would take away from the built in entertainment. Keep em coming guys...and gals. This is fun to read.
