For me it depends how I'm feeling. If I'm outside my comfort zone in any way (playing in an unfamiliar format, or on equipment that's tougher than I'm used to, or against competition tougher than I'm used to, or for more money than I'm used to), then I can only play well if I play quite slowly, taking the time to settle myself and regroup between each shot. In my comfort zone, however, once I've gotten a ways into the session, and have made a good run or two, my optimal tempo becomes faster, and I play my best by only taking the time necessary to make sure my planned pattern or route is still the right one, identify the point of aim, get down, 2 practice strokes, and shoot. It's a tempo similar to Efren's; not wasting much time, but not at all hurried like the fast players mentioned in this thread.
