% when backing pool player

Most of the time I play on my own money. Don't get me wrong; there has been plenty of times I've been staked, had people go in with me or me staking or going on with others. However, my best friend and I gamble together, not so much as a business venture but rather for entertainment purposes. I'd go in with him playing cards and /or he'd stake go in with me playing pool. Always a 50/50 split regardless. To make it fair we would keep a running tab of overall win/loss $ totals so it would not give the " player an unfair advantage as to the " horse " . One thing to be considered which seems to have been overlooked in this discussion matching up is the most important thing. When I say matching up im not necc talking bout the exact matchup itself - ie getting the 8 but rather the go off nature of the person ur playing. Sure one night we may lose 2-3k, but next night play someone else and win 8-9 k. While Actual winning % is 50% u can still come out way ahead in the $$$. Its all about knowing who to gamble with. While u can not be a bit cause really no one will want to gamble with you; if its known that from time to time yall are known to go off for a good sum - people will more likely be apt to take a shot at it. Of you can be discipline while gambling " when possible " lol and getting down with folks that are known not to be it is totally possibe to actually have a losing percentage yet come out way ahead $$$ wise. Many variables, thats all im saying. But more than anything we obviously dont like giving the chez away but much more fun when treated as entertainment than a business venture.

PS JAM - In my opinion when talking about a true champion such as Keith or a few others, I dont think its unreasonable at all for them to have an expectation of a good fair split while being staked. They've earned it, period. Can't get ur money in a better spot, in my opinion. Bangers like me diff story. If I wasn't getting down with a good friend not sure what it would be but I do know that I WOULD NOT expect to get the same deal as a pro/champ such as Keith just as am example. I will agree though for those approaching staking as a business the #'s prob would be diff and rightly so. In the end though if ur winnings are greater than the losses and everyone had fun ( barring the losing party lol ) its all good!

There is a difference..

When you both put up the cash, 50/50 is fair. Unless I am reading this wrong that appears to be what you and your friend are doing.

Otherwise 20/80 is the survival rate.

Where your plan is flawed , You are asking someone to over bet in a back position. That will cause the backer to have a stinging pain or discomfort in the wallet or near about. The backer should be looking to close his book and lock in his profit. He would have to lay bets on the rail with odds to get back to neutral. So sad.

the truth is stakehorses are rare, a dying breed, period as are money matches, particularly the impromptu kind, so all this is almost moot

good luck as a player trying to find a horse that will give you the % you're looking for with real money on the line
