When you play APA they find a way to screw you.

My masters team has now been playing together for 3 sessions which equals a year. We were thinking that masters would be the same as regular league play in that you don't have to play the summer session in order to be eligible for vegas. Now I get an email from our LO telling us that he only has one team signed up for the upcoming session and if there isn't a masters division then whichever team were to win the vegas tourney in a few weeks wouldn't be able to goto vegas. My team is gonna have 3 spots in the vegas tourney based on our regular season performances.

We were all looking forward to taking a break from league but now it looks like we have to bust our butts to get people to play masters or our last year would've all been for nothing....

I just got a notice that our "Bylaws" change include a statement similar to this where if a team is eligible for "City" championship (qualifies us for vegas), then we have to be on an active roster in the same format in the summer session (which is technically session 1 of a new year).

This is total Bull Sh%t

However, my LO told me that it takes effect for next-year's vegas tourny and doesn't apply to this time around. ...... you might want to check with your LO about that

We discovered that our players has to be on the roster for the summer session in order to play in our state tournament (Vegas qualifier) next month. We did have 3 or 4 guys who planned on taking the summer off, and were similarly annoyed. Likewise, so were the remaining members who had recruited replacements so that we could continue playing through the summer, since we all still want to play.

Here's how we're gonna handle it. We're signing up the original team for the summer session, which for us starts this Tuesday. States are on June 12, which means that we need most of the original team to show up to play (or at least 5 of us, handicaps permitting) for three weeks until states come. Summer hasn't really hit yet, so it ain't a big deal. If we get through the tournament and qualify for Vegas, then they're gonna have to keep playing thru the summer, and we'll just have to take turns playing each week.

If we don't qualify for Vegas, then we are still within the add/drop period, and we can go back to our original summer plan, and those guys who wanted to be off for the summer can do so.

Yeah, it's a pain in the tookus. I guess I can see part of what APA is trying to avoid, in that people could qualify for Vegas and then stop playing, thus freezing their handicaps until Vegas. And they could conceivably work on their game during the meantime, improving beyond their handicap. Whereas continuing to play would at least in theory keep their current skill level relatively accurate. (Yes, I know... the sandbagging comments will commence counting down in three, two, one...)

Will people work around those concerns, yes. Those who want to cheat, will do so. I believe the thought is to make the cheating as difficult as possible, and this summer-session policy is probably aimed at this, at least in-part. And yes, they want to make money, so they want their leagues as full as possible every session, so they do have that motivation, as well.

In short, thems the rules. If we want to play the game, we gotta go by their rules. If we don't wanna, no one is forcing us to play.

Let the bashing begin! {ducking for cover} :o

In our area we don't play masters in the summer and all that is required is that the 4 players who are going to the masters in vegas need to be on a team in any other divison (8-ball or 9-ball) for the summer session. I was told by my L.O. that is an APA rule.

In my area, if a team wins the cities (Vegas trip) they are not currently required to play in the summer but I was told that this may be changing.
Also, no team is required to play in the summer simply becuase they qualified for cities.

You should talk to your L.O. and find out if there is no masters division, can you simply get on another team and still qualify to go to Vegas.

this has been the rule in open 8 and 9 ball for a long time. you must continue to play in each session in order to hold your spot in the regionals. all apa tounys are in sessions after the current one.

Jump on some ones roster,an only play four times each side..I've done this for years..no I am not a sand bagger..it sure makes going up fast harder. I have played over 600 match's,but it has taken for ever.As far as feeling like I've been screwed by the APA..sure there's been times I've liked to get everyone to go on strike..lmao.But as much as I read about other events being screwed up..hey its pool..stuff happends.

This has NOTHING to do with keeping skill levels correct.... the policy is a member has to have an established skill level, that is all.... that only requires 10 matches... you DON'T have to play any more than that to qualify... LET ME REPEAT... THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SKILL LEVELS!!!

Bingo.... the summer session is the slowest, least money-generating session. People want to go on vacation, travel, and spend time with their kids... ... the league-year is over, so it's a perfect time to take a break and avoid burn-out from league play.

The APA is just trying to FORCE people to pay their dues during the normally-slow summer.

It pisses me off!
