When you win$ do you pick up the time?

Ok. You offer the guy a chance to win his/her money back at the same game and you win again. Now what? Are you supposed to keep playing until you lose or the guy breaks even? What's the point in even playing? If you win, you win. Most people I know who gamble are trying to make money not give it away.

ugh................

Good table time story.

Road player comes into pool hall. Asks for some action. I play him a $300 set. Lose 9-3. Play bad. He offers the 8. Down 6-0, I win 9 straight but still playing pretty poorly. It was also obvious that he totally went on the stall and just coundn't come off of it. He says I HAVE to play eventhe next set. I say no thanks and I pick up the time and thank HIM for the action. After egging me on a little, he offers the last two. I play a little better and win 9-7. He flips the coin without asking to adjust at all. I play alot better and win 9-4. He screams to play even and double the bet. I meet him halfway and play even. I win 9-7 and he informs me that if I don't double the bet that I am completely heartless. I remind him that he is the road player with the big reputation, I never asked for weight and he is lucky to have gotten any action at all in that room. I tell him I'll play the same game, he says double the bet or he's quitting. I laugh at him and thank him again for playing. He continues on for a while about the room having no gamblers and being a shitty room in general. Everyone's had just about enough of his mouth. I go to pay our time and the room owner tells me that I CAN"T pay his half or I'M barred. Needless to say, another pissing contest breaks out over that situation. What can I do, get barred? So I let this guy pick up the $17 tab on his mouth. First time ever I didn't get the time when I was winner. But a lesson was learned. Be nice and those things probably won't happen.

I'm from New York and it is considered extremely bad action to quit while up. I mean, that could cause a fight in most of the rooms I've played out of.

That's because you guys in NY don't have enough sense to set up a way out before you start. :D

God I hate NY. Never been there - you couldn't pay my way to visit that place.

Now having said that, I really don't hate some of the people from NY. :p

So nice of you not to hate all of us. Your post says a lot about where and how you were brought up. Please be sure to keep your promise about visiting.

You think anyone buys it when your friend calls you up and you have to go...or tells you that they're running late so you can stay later, etc.? Go ahead and do it, but don't think for a second that anyone's naive/dumb enough to buy it.

Anytime i have played for money, and i win the first set, of course i am going to play a second set. Its only proper to offer a guy the chance to win his money back.

And the same goes for if i lose the first set, i always want a chance to win my money back. And if i lose the second set, and figure out, i dont have a chance to beat the guy, i will just pay, and be happy that i only lost 2 sets.

Now if its going back n forth, and nobody is getting ahead, i might say something about last set, or 2 more sets, or something. Cuz whats the point of playing someone when your just going to break even, or maybe come outa a little bit ahead.

But rarely i have ever seen someone quit ahead after 1 set, or 2 sets.

"See, that's what happens when you play a team from New York" and "Nothing but a bunch of scumbags from New York."

You can believe what you want about us.

Jude...I always enjoy your posts regardless of what side of the fence we're on, but here's what I believe about New Youka's.

First, I was born and raised a Yankee. (PA) Went to Gettysburg a few times and wandered the battlefield on school trips etc.

Now I live in the south and am not a practicing redneck since I don't own a truck, a hot-rod, a gun rack in my vehicle, or a mullet. I still have my PA twang on certain words.

However, I did live 12 years in south Fla., Ft. Lauderdale area, where ALL of the New Yorkers and nearby New Jersey residents come to reside either permenantly or as snowbirds. And all I can say is, I have NEVER seen a group of people from any state in the union that is more argumentative, combative, insulting, obnoxious, deceptive and lying, or antagonistic than those from New York and New Jersey. Sorry to say that but true.
I place myself right in there with them now after having to do battle for over a decade, but it just became survival and a way of life. I'm not kidding...I was like a choir boy. (see...I just lied and was deceptive ;) ) I'm now ruined... :(

Some thing I always do if I win a decent chunk is pick up the losers time...Classy and builds good feelings between an opponent even in a loss keeps them coming back..Good Kharma as well??????

I played the owner of a poolhall in Korea Town a couple years ago, and he beat me out of $150. My time was about $20, the table rates were $14 per hour. This guy owned the poolhall and he still made me pay my time after losing to him. This guy was a big time nit and wouldn't play me again when I saw him at a different poolhall, even when I wanted to play him the same way, without any weight. He told me to go to his poolroom and he would play me again, and I just laughed and said that the $20 I paid in table time over there cost him myself and all of my friends as customers there. He wouldn't play me without his home court advantage. The moral here is that if you beat someone out of a decent amount and table time is a small percentage of what you won, pay the time and you will most likely get a return customer.
