Side-betting police.

You walk into the venue and see Side-betting is prohibited signs all over the place.

I'm not against side-betting, but there is a time for it and a certain tact that I thought would be taken.

I'm watching the Bank Pool Ring Game on Friday night and the whole time these two idiots a couple rows behind me are side-betting loud enough for the entire section to hear them. I'm not talking "I'll bet $$$ that so and so wins this thing". I'm talking between and during shots. After almost every shot I had to hear "HA! pay me beyotch."

And that's not the only example.

This was my first feature table experience mind you. Is blatant side-betting common? I see signs all over the place and yet I hear a guy yelling to the crowd asking wondering if anyone watching if they want to bet on someone.

Maybe i'm just a noob, but I thought it was more "under the table" than that.
 
I believe the term "No Betting Allowed" was really meant "No betting Aloud". You're chances of being escorted out by the Casino Security are likely higher if you're loud and open about it, but also are your chances of getting a bet down. I haven't seen or heard of anyone being bothered by security or police for any form of gambling here but there are signs to help cover their asses if the constabulary decided to enforce archaic laws.

I think there needs to be a differentiation between security/police and the state gaming board enforcement officials.

At the "old" DCC at the EW in Louisville, there was (almost) always a uniformed security guard in the action room. The most I ever saw him do was get on someone about smoking after the new smoking laws took effect. Security wasn't in the room to watch for gambling, they were there to make sure no one did anything stupid. With that crowd, they are pretty-much self-policing and anyone who knows anything about the culture wouldn't try anything stupid. I don't recall ever seeing any problems in the "old" action room.

Fast-forward to this year.....at the casino venue.

They have security whose job it is to ensure the safety of their guests. I'm assuming, based on what Greg Sullivan has stated prior to the DCC, that they're going to "look the other way" towards gambling, just as it was at the EW. The difference at this venue is the fact that there is legal casino gambling on the same premises. This brings gaming officials into the picture. Their job is to "police" the legal gambling that goes on at the site. If they got a bug up their rear-ends, they could put the smack-down on the illegal gambling. But, as long as things are peaceful and no one gets out of hand, they seem to be "looking the other way" as well.

If people are within reason and there aren't any problems, I would assume everyone will continue to "look the other way."
 
The First example was more annoying than anything. Like people talking while you're at a movie premiere.
