The thing you have to realize is that the people suggesting a gun safe have several cues often worth several thousand dollars each. If you've only got a couple thousand in equipment or less and nothing that's not easily replaceable then your closet is fine!
I'd still rather not lose cues worth a paltry "couple of thousand", even though I'm no longer a starving student.

Yeah, I would be sick if I lost my cues but the point I was trying to make is that if he has insurance that will cover the theft and he doesn't have anything that's not easily replaced then he shouldn't worry too much about it.

spread the risk

I keep my cues in three different gun safes all in different locations. I know no matter what happens in terms of break in or fire that I will never lose my entire collection. I also do the same thing with my rifles. My insurance would skyrocket if I lost everything in one tragedy.

I learned this from a security expert years ago on Dateline ( or maybe 20/20?)

He gave a ton of great advice on home security not only from intruders but fire/ mold/ water damage...everything. I remember it so well I always survey my friends homes when I am over there...Yes it is annoying but many thank me when something bad happens.
