Truth be told, I think some players are able to make action happen, no matter where they are.

I have walked into some rooms that look like dungeons, dead as a doornail, and lo and behold, after a few back-and-forths, it was action jackson.

I went on the road with an action player one time who had the personality of a piss-ant, unless he was winning, of course. Then he was such a nice guy! :grin-square:

We'd walk into joints, he'd look around, and then turn to me and say, "There's nothing happening here. Let's go." Sometimes he'd walk into a pool room or a bar and say to the guy behind the counter, "Anybody here want to play some 9-ball?" I mean he had no knack for getting the action going.

Where I used to hang out, there was a large group of us who used to go into this joint every single day and play 8-ball on the one and only table for a dollar or a brewskie. I had more fun playing for that dollar. If I was able to make 10 bucks for the night, I felt wealthy. It was the win, though, more so than the monies. I really, really, really liked beating some of those guys, and they liked it when they scored the big "W" over me too.

When the place would shut down, we'd sometimes stay after hours. The bartender was one of us, a pool nut, and he'd let us play for 5 bucks a game or 10 bucks a game. We'd play until somebody went bust. Man, did we used to have fun! It was the comraderie, more so than the gambling, though, that made it fun.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you're looking for stone-cold action, with no friendship involved, then you sometimes have to make that happen, kind of like a hit and run.

If you're looking for a place to hang out that has action, like the experience I described above, then hopefully you'll find a place that has like-minded people who just want to gamble a little on the offs and have fun with it. Some of the best times in my life I ever had with pool was playing those friends of mine for the buck or brewskie.

JAM

Nice lil story Jam. I hung in a room like that when I was younger. It was great, we were all friends but all liked the action. We went home when the sun came up. ;)

New Orleans pool gambling isn't what it used to be. The Sports Palace is a skeleton of what it used to be but the people in Louisiana still seems to be a group of people who enjoy a wager at every turn.

We've got casinos:( , video poker :(, poker :( , horse racing:(, independent sports betting and of course we still have some pool action. Each one of these entities takes a piece of the propective pool action. (OH, and I forgot BINGO) which a serious obsession with many people in our area. My mom once won $50,000.00 playing Bingo at a local Bingo Parlor.

We have a few guys who try to make a living gambling and for the most part, they just scuffle along, feast today famine tomorrow or like Al Morales (my first pool room owner's name) used to say, "A pool player's life is like that of a fox, chicken today, feathers tomorrow".:D

There is action in my pool room everyday of the year. Many times I am not part of that action but occasionally I play some of the up and coming players and they teach me a new shot or two. I regularly see people gambling for ten and twenty dollars. The other day we had an old banger who always talks about gambling but never bets more than five dollars. I have avoided him like the plague because he talks and talks and talks and talks. You get the idea.... Anyway Jerome Gambino is playing the guy and all of a sudden I see two ten dollar bills get thrown on the table after a lost game and this went on for about an hour. Finally I caught Jerome's ear and eye when the guy wasn't looking and inquired WTF? and Jerome said they had raised the bet to 50 a game. YOu could have knocked me over with a feather. Anyway, there is money to be made if your willing to look in every wallet and if you are able to turn a wooden ear to the noise that often emanates from those who are inclined to go on and one, like this post. :p

There are plenty of people here for you to mix it up with. While Louisiana boys give up their cash to road players like young boys do for young girl friends, when you become a regular, there will still be action everywhere you look; it will just get tougher and tougher. For some reason, they don't mind losing to a new face but expect to break even or win every once in a while with a local. Go figure.:)

I think I would have to check out Florida but heck, you've got poor old Donnie Miller posting on AZ looking for action. I guess when you get to a certain level the easy action just disappears at least for you.

We have a couple of players who would play you on a regular basis, it just wouldn't be the easiest money you have ever earned. And if you did outrun the nuts, they would be laying in wait for you the next time they caught you out of stroke. :smash:

Some people tell me the Carolinas are the place to be but like JAM says, sometimes action is what you make of it.
