Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new cue and I don't know where to shop for one. I tried my local pool hall, but all they have are a few Players, Lucassi, and McDermotts and they won't let me chalk up the new cues to try them out. Question 1: Is Lucassi a good cue? Question 2: Where in Massachusetts, New Hampshire or Maine is good place to buy a cue? I know we have a few New Englanders on this board. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How much are you looking to spend?
A lot hinges on your price range.

around $500. I am not looking for a pretty stick. I don't need any fancy inlays or anything like that. I once bought a plain Schon for about $300 and it was perfect.

For that kind of money you can do very well.
If you like the hit of a Schon, which in my opinion all play the same, your best bet would be to contact Erik Lee (dooziexx here on the board). Best Schon prices around.
If you want something cheaper with just as good of a hit my advice is Helmstetter. You can find a plainish one for around $200 that will hit as well as any custom I have played with. The only problem is that I don't know anyone local so you would need to order on-line.

Hope this was helpful,

nearest to seacoast NH

Try Ac-cue-rate billiards in Pelham, NH, 5 or 6 miles from 93. Try the Complete Gamester in Waltham, MA. Depending upon how much yhou want to spend call Mike Webb, excellent custom cue but of course more expensive than a production cue.
Most retail places will not let you chalk to try the cue.

I think Erik Lee, can get you a Schon STL 1 for like 400$ about that. check out his web site, Erikleecues.com he has some good deals for Schon cues.

ask the pool room owner if you can chalk up with tan masters,,,,,,,,doesnt turn shafts an odd color,,,,,,,,,,and explain to him that you are in the market for a cue,,,,,,,,,,he just might feel the need to part with a cue before you go to ebay

I live near Complete Gamester in Waltham, good selection of midrange cues, lots of lucasi and predator, helmstetter, a few josses, i think they have schons. I would call ahead to ask about the higher-end selection, since most of the cues I saw were midrange.
