Friends, a friend of mine is planning to go to Thailand in
September 2008, and wants to know places where
he and his buddies can practice and play billiards.

Hoping for some info, friends!

Much thanks, everyone!

Cuaba knows a lot about the pool scene in Bangkok- he likes the Sports Academy (I haven't been there yet- probably next trip in October) and plays there every night when he's in town- Ball In Hand (2 locations) is generally where I go to play- good tables and people.

If your friend plans to go to Koh Samui let me know and I'll hook him up with a room.

I understand there are more fun thing to do in Thiland besides play POOL.

I was one of the original owners of Ball In Hand. I still play there often. They have weekly 9-Ball & 8-Ball tournaments on Saturday & Sunday afternoons. The Times Square location also has an in-house cue repair shop. The guy who runs it, Tee, is good enough that I let him work on my Southwest.

But the best place to play now is Sports Academy near the corner of Asok & Sukhumvit. It has more room, more tables, and more action. There is a ring game almost every night that is fun to play in. And there are a few guys who will play big sets if you arrange it.

I'll be back in October, it sounds like I'll miss your friends by a month. Don't worry, they'll have a great time.

Brian, hope to see you again then.

Definitely- either on Samui or in Bangkok (or both)- I have some time off coming up and I'll save some of it for when you're in town- I wanna take a couple lessons from the instructor you recommended, and I want to have my ankle checked out by a specialist at Bumrungrad Hospital one of these days (running screwed it up a bit:rolleyes: ).

Brian,
I forgot to recommend your resort. We had a great time when we were there, thank you again. I'm sure Anitokid's friends would have a great time as well.

I'll be in Thailand from October to January, other than a few weeks here for Thanksgiving, so I'll try to make it back to Samui sometime. I may be at Bumrungrad as well. I may need to have eye surgery, and I'm going to have to decide if I want it done here or there. Bumrungrad is so much nicer than anything here.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I'll definitely be in Bangkok at least once during that time (might have to go up north as well as Aor is bugging me to check out our land in Ratchaburi to make some preliminary architechtural plans for a resort and spa, though it would be a couple years before breaking ground).

I had LASIK done at Bumrungrad about five years ago- couldn't have gone any smoother.:)

Occular pressure is supposed to be under 20. Mine is 39. I will eventually go blind if I don't do something. They diagnosed it at Bumrungrad two months ago. I'm going to see a specialist here before I do anything. One of my best friends is an eye surgeon.

Another place I forgot: Rack Em Up at RCA Plaza is another great place to play in Bangkok.

There is more gambling per capita in Pattaya. Olly, a Scandinavian guy who works/plays at Megabreak is the best player in town that I know of. Another good player is John Robinson, an English snooker/pool player. But I ran over him last time we played.

Both will play big sets. But you better be able to play.

No Worries

Yes there are. But that only occupies a few hours a day.

I bet all my friends that visit me that after a couple weeks they will want a day off. Sounds unbelievable right?

I haven't lost that bet yet.

Much thanks Cuaba!

If you want to gamble, talk to the following:

Ball in Hand at soi Nana: Henning is the owner.

Ball in Hand at Times Square: Allen is the manager.

Sports Academy at Asok: Boi is the manager.

Rack Em Up at RCA Plaza: Ben and Bee are the owners.

Megabreak in Pattaya: I believe Olly is managing or working there?

All of these guys will gamble and/or set up games for you. And they will handicap you for their local tournaments.

Have fun!

Find a place with snooker tables (inexpensive and good equipment). Its great you go into a place filled with 12 ft tables a girl gets you a table, drinks somebody to play with (snooker).
