I am in Anchorage for the weekend and will have some time in the evenings. Can anyonesuggest a good place where one might be able to shoot some pool?

Billiards Palace...Should be in the book...:) Never been there myself, but I have it on good authority that it's a good spot.

Well went there last night, nice place come to find out that they are having some pre Vegas tourney this weekend.
I won't be able to play today in the 8 ball tourney but I will be able to play in the 9 ball tomorrow.

If you're looking for another place in Anchorage, there's a place called Minnesota Billiards. It was a decent place when I was there, but that was a couple of years ago. Should be easy to Google.

Wow that is exactly what I did not expect to see in a pool hall in Alaska. That looks like a really nice place. Amazing how I was looking to move to Anchorage about 6 years ago.

There's actually 3 or 4 in Anchorage I think. There are quite a few tables in the state. Historically pool has been popular with miners, loggers and fisherman. I've heard rumors of imported hustlers hanging out in Dutch Harbor (ala deadliest catch) gabling with crewmen who just hauled in $30k+ a piece. Never been there specifically so I can't confirm but there is usually a table in most of the reasonably commercialized, wet (alcohol not water) ports. I have been in some of those hole in the wall bars by the harbor after a fishery opening and next to the "free round bell" sat a hammered deckhand ringing it every half hour or so. That was at least $100 a ring and he didn't outwardly appear to know anyone else at the bar (or know where he was). I doubt he would have had a problem dropping some serious money at a table if so inclined. Some of those guys spend ridiculous amounts of time on a table and shoot pretty well.

I wonder how many of those aledged hustlers ended up disappearing since leaving town really isn't an option on short notice. :D
