Where's the action in the Memphis area?

Places to play

high pockets on old summer is the nicest room in Memphis in my opinion, you can find whatever kind of action you want in there,,,WM

The Rack on Lamar (hwy 78), near I-240, is a good place to look for a game as well.

I don't know, I was too busy trying to eat at as many barbecue joints as possible, no time for pool! I don't think I would have even noticed a pool table; unless it had some Q on it.

1. go to the barbecue shop. i don't remember the adress off the top of my head, i haven't been there in over a year but it's the nuts.
2. i have a friend who is on the memphis p.d. and if i remember correctly he has told me that certain parts of lamar i should be careful. just a word of caution. memphis is a city with a lot to offer but it's very rough in spots, not unlike any other city.
3. i've heard high pockets is a cool place. i have never had time to shoot when i visit becuase i am with friends who don't play:frown:

Could someone give me a list of places to play in Memphis? Going to Tunica for some poker tournaments next week and might play pool one or two days. Looking for some cheap action...........just below or at shortstop speed players. Thanks.

DTL, I see you are from E-Town, Ky. Take a drive up to Louiseville,Ky this week and check out the 3C Tourney, Then while you're there talk with Paul Frankel [Professorqball] about places to play in Memphis, as he from that area, www.professorqball.com

there is a certain very well known pro that has been known to show up at the rack every once in a while... don't want to say who it is, but dont let the weight on his arms or his finger tip extensions distract you if you match up with him.

The Southaven Recreation Center is where all the action is. It is a suburb of Memphis. If you need directions just call 662-342-0230.

I gave similar advice in a previous thread on places in Memphis. It can be a dangerous city and certain locales are to be avoided like the plague.
Maybe things have changed in the year or so since I left....But the ..Rack on lamar is not on a list of places I would send my friends. The fellow that mentioned the Rec center in southhaven is steering you straight.....Dan

yeah i don't like to bash anything too much especially if i don't have first hand knowledge but being my friend is cop there i take his word for it if he tells me something isn't a good idea.

Why is that? They have great tables and action can be found there:confused:

Again....things may have changed, but when I lived in Memphis the area the Rack is located in is a high crime area. I recall at least one fatal shooting in the parking lot, and numerous assaults taking place in the various strip clubs in that area. But don't just take my word for it....go to rangemasters shooting club on millbranch and ask for Tom Givens. He is the lead instructor and a decorated officer. He is always armed and has instructed many "operators" in the art of personal defense. He doesn't travel that part of lamar unless his job requires it.

One other quick note.....The BBQ shop is located in midtown on madison.
My hands down favorite is Interstate BBQ.....and it is conviently located for a stop on your way to the Rec. Ctr. The Rendezvous always gets good press whenever BBQ is mentioned......but their sauce just doesn't rise to the level of Interstates.

i used to run the rack in memphis it is harmless go by you will enjoy the equipment if you dont find any action earl practices out of there or has been for the last few months til he went to a few stops to do pool school so how bad you think it can be. i live 90 miles southeast of there may play some and southaven rec is also a good spot its 30 minutes from tunica good equipment one pocket action and you can bet in there good luck if you wanna holla at me shoot me a pm
