Where's the pros at the Reno Open?

From a quick scan of the brackets i only picked out a few solid pros: Parcia, Putnam, Chamat, Lapena, and Wiseman....

Is there something else going on this week that's keeping the pros away?

It's been slim pickins for top pros for awhile now in reno, especially in winter.

Used to get Archer,Hall, Strickland,Efren, Rempe and a bunch of legends but now you get a lot of excellent players, but few world beaters.

Dan Wallace and Shane Van Boening (sp?) are also there but lost a match early. Tony Chohan, Edwin Montal, and Troy Frank are also playing.

I can't remember how the brackets look, but I like Putnam or Chamat to take home the cheese. Parica usually does well but he's not been taking top prize in any tourneys I've heard about lately. Marlon would of been a big favorite if he would of showed up.

Troy Frank's about due. He's got all the tools. Montal, Parica, Medina could do well.

No real strong favorites this year.

Regards,

Doug

Well here's the group from 2004: Basavich, Jones, Bryant, Deuel, Parcia, Owen, Davis, Morris, Wiseman, Sambajon, and Saez....

2003: Davis, Archer, Sambajon, Eberle, Jones, Parcia, Souquet, Frost, Morris, Wiseman, Hall, Owen, and Deuel....

and those are just the big names that cashed those years

It just seems wierd that there's been that much of a change in just a year or two especially when first is always more than 10k...

There's still a lot of great pool being played in Reno.

The first year I went, though, had Archer, Sigel, Varner, Buddy H., Earl, Jimmy Mataya, Jimmy Reid, Efren, Bustamente, Davenport. In other words, more Hall of Fame class players that made the trip out pretty exciting to me since I had just started playing pool and reading about those guys.

Plenty of great players still there playing top class pool but only Parica is really a HOF level legend playing there now.

I also think the prize fund has been about the same but the cost and hassle of flying out (especially post 9/11) has gone up for players not near the west coast.

The US Open in one pocket is having similair problems it seems. The money is just not high enough to draw a world class field. Some great players for sure, but not a full field of the top guys in the game.

look for shane to string some wins together

look for shane to string some wins together on the losers side.....the kid has heart

Just Curious

I was just curious if this tournament was held on 7ft or 9ft tables? Some talk of a big bar box tournament has been flying around here, but the question was raised about big time pros showing up for a bar table tournament. What do you all think?
