which chalk?

People come across old supplies of it now and then and sell it in the For Sale section here. I had a small box of the stuff that had been kicking around in one of my old cases from ages ago, I don't notice much of a differerence in the play characteristics. I've used Russian Magic and Blue Diamond and preflag Master and I like Blue Diamond the best.

I guess I'm way in the minority here. I'm using Silver Cup green. I think it stays on a little better than the current Masters. I like the results I'm getting. Had been having miscue problems with Master blue. None with the Silver Cup. Never tried BD. Would like to. Maybe at next years SBE I'll find a cube or so and try it.

What he said !!! I like the Silver Cup olive green as it does not show on shafts or ferrules much, and leaves less marks on the green cloth at leagues....not sure why blue is the color of choice for green cloth??

Silver Cup is made in Georgia. Master Chalk in Chicago. If I forget my SC and have to use MC at league (the house brand is MC) , I don't miss a beat, they are pretty similar, it comes down to the color choice for me....
I just gotta wipe down the shafts and ferrules a little more after league !!

And I buy it buy the gross. Once a piece is 1/3 down, in the trash it goes !! It's too cheap to grind out every last piece of it...and i'm never paying $4 for a piece of chalk.....geez..
Can't remember is the last few years that I ever missed cue !!! If i did, it was usually because I drew to low and hit the table first.....but not because of lack of chalk.

Finally, I can weigh in on this topic. Some time back, I bought a small box of pre flag masters from 12squared here. Great guy to deal with. Bought it for 2 reasons...curiosity, to see if it's any better. But mainly as display chalk for an old cue & case I have.

Maybe it's my poor skill level, but using both pre flag & flag, same table, same cues, same day? Damned if I can tell any difference.

Pic of the cue/case combo I wanted the pre flag for...purchased in the early 70's for $125. Yep, my name is under the plastic ring. ;)
