i've just been browsing hawley's for the hell of it when
this caught my eye
The McDermott i-x shaft system is carbon fibre....
what did they do? laminate it with wood grain?

The shaft is actually maple, but the core (center of the shaft) is carbon fiber. I have tried all three of those shafts, and they are ok, but not near as good as an OB-1, or predator.

This is for someone that wants the same type of hit as McDermott's regular shaft. They don't play all that different.

Stay away from any cue who's "producer" releases more than 200 cues per year. More than that, and the quality takes a back seat to $$$$$$$.

I don't buy that at all, there are several good cue makers that mass produce.

You can have your opinions, but I believe there are several cues that are worth their money even though they mass produce.

I don't know who keeps voting that they are all wood, but they are not. I have had the opportunity to own all three of the I series shafts. They have a carbon fiber rod running up the center of the shaft, and there is nothing about them that is a laminate.

Don't get them confussed with Cutec...........the outer core of the I series is WOOD, so it feels like a regular McDermott shaft. If you didn't know it had a carbon fiber center you wouldn't be the wiser. It just deflects less because of the carbon core, and small ferrell. The only portion that gives away the carbon fiber core is the inside of the joint. And that is only if you have a wood to wood joint........if it is a metal joint you won't even see the carbon fiber center.

Cutec has a fiberglass or graphite coating on top of the wood depending on which model you buy.

So don't get them confused the I-series feel and play a lot better than the Cuetec shafts.
