Which Jump Cue?

I am not sure whether this is the proper forum to ask my question. I tried doing a search as well before posting. OK. I do not know how to jump a ball when playing pool. I am interested in and want to learn how so I have this skill in my game. Which jump cue do you believe would be a better one for me to buy. Cuetec's SVB or Predator's Air 2. They are both the same money, roughly. What do you all reco to me. Thank you. Larry

I use a Predator Air II.
Jumps effortlessly.

With the Air its light enought that you can jump overhand (dart) style with alot if accuracy. That way you can get over balls much closer and you can reach out to jump from closer to center table. When you can't reach, you can dart jump with a bridge.

I have a mezz and a predator jump cue. They both work fine. Years ago I used a frog, it also worked fine.
Once you learn how to jump most jump cues work. With all that said I really don’t like jump cues. It’s hard on the equipment and it changes the game making it less strategic.

Thank you both for answering. Poolhall, I agree with 'not liking jump cues' and your reason(s) why. :) Still, figured it is something new, and something to learn. I play regularly (well, once or twice a week) at a rec center here in Sun City, AZ. No one that I have seen there uses them, and why I asked my question here. SC is a seniors community, in Phoenix area. We are all a bunch of old, retired guys.

So far it does not seem to make much of a difference which brand jump cue used. Many of the name brand JCs I have looked at have pretty similar specs. I'm leaning toward the Predator. And the dart style SBC mentions seems easier for me to learn. lg

The best I have ever used (and I hate jump cues) was the original Predator Air and the OB Lift Pro 3 piece. Kept the Pro.

The Air 2 is a decent jumper and should suit your needs well. They are also easy to resell if you don't like it.

No way to tell which is best for you until you try a few of em

I had a predator air that I thought was ok, but when I got my pure x jump break I never jumped so effortlessly

Gotta try a few till you find it, you'll know pretty fast when you do

I like the propel better than both of your options. It almost jumps too easy. But like was said above, trial and error are best. Work on your jump stroke and find a cue that feels right.

If you have good jump fundamentals, you can jump with any cue. At that point it becomes a preference on feel/weight/grip/brand etc. The cue I use for the one hand jumps in the artistic pool tournaments retails for $100. Nothing special about it. I just like how it is weighted. Once you get your fundamentals down, find something you like/can afford and enjoy.

I'd say the Cuetec Propel is the better of the two having worked with both the Propel and the Air Rush. The Cuetec Propel is all carbon fiber composite. The Predator Air Rush is not- only the shaft. The Cuetec Propel has a larger diameter which helps eliminate some unintended side spin as well, plus it costs less. These days buying a Predator is more paying for the name.

Like a few others have said, once you learn how to jump, the cue really doesn’t matter, you can jump with anything, some cues just make it easier. The Air 2 is a fine jump cue. I currently use a Go Customs jump cue and that thing is like stealing.

Hi All, I really appreciate all your comments and help. Where I play there is no one using jump cues to ask my question(s). Therefore I can't be 'taught' it, or, try several jump cues to see which fits me. Everybody is retired and when we played 'back in the day' no one used jump cues. Not something we learned or grew up with. So you 'guyz' are great help. My only motive for having the jump cue and ability is to just have another tool in my box and be a more 'complete player'. I actually like playing safes and working my way out of them using rails etc when one is played on me.

I will watch Dr Dave's vid on jumping the link is in this thread. Thanx everyone!

I would get the PureX break/jump cue, and change the tip out to a white diamond with a local cuemaker. Benefit of those is that it comes apart into several pieces, so can get a close jump short cue, or a medium jump medium length cue or the break cue. It will do all of those reasonably well. Not the top for any one thing, but good enough for all of them especially considering it's half the price or some of the top dedicated cues. I bought mine used with shipping for about $160.

The all maple J&j jump cue is great. Like every thing it takes alot of practice to get good. It's a good place to start. You get similar ones on ebay for $40

I'll agree with your preference of the Cuetec Propel over the Predator Air Rush. My previous fave, until last week, was the quite capable Air Hog 2 which I also preferred over the Air Rush and all of the others that I'd test-driven, bought, etc.

BTW, the Propel is shown as 13.9mm while the Air Rush is shown as 14mm.

OP, ask everyone what they like and why they like it. Also, ask to try eveything that you see as most folks are more than willing to let you try a few shots with their bat of choice.

Here is another free and great video. This is the one that helped me learn to jump (it came out before the good Dr. put his out).
